I'm pleased to anoint The Nine Virtues of Magnus the Pious as the winner of the 2008 WFRP Scenario Writing Contest. The Badlands Rabble, consisting of Nenad Kostic, Dejan Mandic, Svebor Midzic, Darinka Pop Mitic, submitted a top-notch entry.
We were impressed with the attention to detail in the layout and development of the book. The production value is simply outstanding. You can tell by looking through the scenario that a lot of effort and energy went into the submission.

As the winners of the 2008 Scenario Contest, I’ll be sending The Badlands Rabble a signed advance copy of the Career Compendium. Here’s a picture of me proudly displaying a proof copy of the final book. I am extremely pleased with how the Career Compendium turned out - the writers and artists helped create an incredible product for the WFRP line.

Thanks again to all the folks who entered the scenario contest, and to the fans who have been following along, and to those folks who will download one of the scenarios and become inspired to create their own adventures in the Old World.
Congratulations once again to our wonderful finalists - Grauschloss by Daniel Niklas Jørgensen, Burn after Printing by Alexander J Bateman, and the Nine Virtues of Magnus the Pious by the Badlands Rabble.
Be sure to stop by the Support section of the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay site to download these scenarios if you haven't already. The stop by the Scenario contest thread over at the WFRP forums and share your thoughts on this year's entries with other fans.

I'm pleased to announce our third finalist for the 2008 Warhammer Fantasy Scenario Contest. We received a lot of entries, and the three finalists should be extremely proud to rise to the top of the number of excellent entries received. I’d like to thank everyone who did participate in the contest - I enjoyed reading the wide variety of scenarios and ideas, especially to see how creative and thematic the entries could be given the tight deadline and submission guidelines.
Today I present you with our third and final, well.. finalist. Congratulations once again to all three well-deserving entries.
Scenario Contest Finalist #3:
Burn After Printing By Alexander J Bateman
Alexander’s Burn After Printing is tagged as “A Tale of Printed Pamphlets in the Empire’s Premier City.” The power of the written word is always an interesting topic for a setting where illiteracy is so common.
Without spoiling any surprises, here’s how Burn After Printing gets started:
The scenario starts with the Characters being accosted by a messenger summoning them to meet with Michaela von Jänke at the Hangman’s Tavern, located on Altdorf’s famous Three Tolls Bridge. This should ideally happen when they are located in a tavern, shop or other location that a messenger could have easily tracked them down too. The message is not written down, and if questioned the messenger will only say that he is employed as a footman at the Hangman’s Tavern, and that Michaela von Jänke is one of the taverns regular clients.
Alexander did a great job providing a variety of options at different stages of the adventure. Each option is fleshed out with important details on handling the specific approach, resulting in an adventure that feels more open-ended and dynamic than the word count restrictions would seem to enforce. The scenario concludes by evaluating the consequences for the character’s actions, and presents several possible outcomes.
A number of handy sidebars and handouts help the GM breath life into the adventure and make sure the characters remain engaged. The very first sidebar, titled “Why Me,” helps provide some useful tips to get the characters involved in the storyline.
The judges especially liked the information provided in the Appendices for Burn After Printing. The appendices do a wonderful job of expanding on the locations found in the adventure, and offer a lot of flavourful local colour via the non-player characters listed and their conversations. The information in the appendices is sure to find a place in your game even after finishing Burn After Printing.
Congratulations, Alexander – as one of the finalists, you may be selected as the ultimate winner of the 2008 Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Scenario Contest!

I'm pleased to announce our second finalist for the 2008 Warhammer Fantasy Scenario Contest. We received a lot of entries, and the three finalists should be extremely proud to rise to the top of the number of excellent entries received. Scenario Contest Finalist #2:
The Nine Virtues of Magnus the Pious By The Badlands Rabble
The Badlands Rabble (comprised of Nenad Kostic, Dejan Mandic, Svebor Midzic, Darinka Pop Mitic) produced one of several group efforts we received for the scenario contest. One quick look is all it takes to realize that they really invested a lot of time and effort into the submission.
Here is their introduction to the Nine Virtues adventure:
Welcome to The Nine Virtues of Magnus the Pious, a WFRP scenario for players still in their first careers. It is ideal as a campaign opener, since it gives GM opportunity to bunch together PCs from all sorts of careers. If you are planning to run this adventure for more experienced players, all you need to do is accordingly adjust the strength of opposition.
The adventure takes place in the city of Wolfenburg during the first siege of Chaos led by warlord Surtha Lenk in the year 2521. It will take PCs on a quest through the streets of ravaged city, bring them face to face with the horrors of chaos and offer them possible salvation from the besieged city.
What immediately impressed the judges about the Nine Virtues of Magnus the Pious was the production value. This entry was by far the most “polished” in terms of professional layout, look and feel. And the excellent scenario is worth the treatment.
We also liked the fact that the adventure took place in a very interesting time and place - smack dab in the middle of a city under siege, during a tumultuous time for the Empire. The scenario creates a nice sense of tension.
The adventure is accompanied by a great deal of original art produced by members of the submission team, as well as a series of well conceived maps and handouts to assist the GM in running the adventure.
Congratulations to the Badlands Rabble – as one of the finalists, you may be selected as the ultimate winner of the 2008 Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Scenario Contest!

| The Epiphany Frosts The forces found in Novgorod brought to light. |
|
| Tannhäuser | Published 26 January 2009 | Rating | 33 votes |
Tannhäuser throws you into the middle of a war that never ended. Both sides are advanced, and neither side is willing or able to give way. Their war is fought with people, machines, demonic allies, and terrifying weaponry. The battles shake the very foundations of the world, and they have now angered the Gods. Reborn into three mighty suits of armor, the Slavic Gods are unleashing their fury on the conflict.

Operation Novgorod brings to bear many new additions. Some have been featured, new game modes, null characteristics, the Legend, the Liturgy, and the Voïvode. Each of these things brings new stratagems to the game. Today we highlight a few more of the weapons and forces found in the latest addition to a world at war.
Driven by the Slavic Gods, powered by the astounding genius of Nikola Tesla, forced to wage war against foes both armored in science and the occult, the forces of the Matriarchy are formidable. Each of the three characters found in Novgorod brings a unique twist on the icy forces of the Matriarchy.
Zor'ka wears heavy armor and is the living reincarnation of one of the Gods. She draws her strength from this and unleashes devastating bolts of electricity into her foes. Mechanically, her Awakening ability gives her a turn to do untold damage, or survive almost any onslaught. Using this power gives Zor'ka one turn with a single stat at 9! Put into her combat value, she may crush almost any foe before her, and with her magnifier able to affect every figure on her path... Using the Awakening on her stamina stat gives her the power to weather a full turn of the worst an enemy force can throw at her. Standing on the objective, blocking a doorway, shielding teammates, she will stand proudly and defiant in the face of the storm. In addition, her Legendary status makes her immune to all natural 10 effects. Truly the power of the Gods flows through her.
Dubbed the Siren of Samarkand, Irina Kravchenko has a voice to make the heavens weep. Spoken of in the Kirgiz oral legends, Irina is believed to be of divine descent. On the battlefield, her liturgies flow over the sounds of combat and grant her embattled allies and herself supernatural powers. The Liturgy of Valor allows Irina or an ally within range to make a Counterattack without spending a victory point. The Liturgy of Courage increases the movement rate of Irina or her allies by one without the expenditure of a victory point. Finally the Liturgy of Faith instills the touch of the divine within and heals one wound in Irina or her allies within range, you guessed it, without spending a victory point. Each of these liturgies relate to different packs, so most foes will not have to face the awesome powers of these combined. Her special power, Martyr, gives a large boost to the forces of the Matriarchy in the event of Irina's death. In death she grants bonus victory points to her side, depending on what turn she meets her end. Even in death, she serves her country.
Irishka Voronin graduated valedictorian in electrophysiology, and is a member of the elite scientific group, Novodievitchi. On the field of battle, her R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal
Robots) can repair the armor of the mighty Zor'ka one wound level or can repair a destroyed Voïvode in an adjacent square. Given the earlier power of Zor'ka, anything that extends her life is powerful indeed. Her weapon of choice is Kaali, a modified electromagnetic cannon. This weapon launches Meteops, a small clinging explosive device. Once fired, the Meteop attaches itself to the target. Any successful combat roll against the target from a Magnifier, Volta pistol, or Smiljan Coil or Module is enough to detonate the explosive. The resulting explosion deals two automatic wounds to the target, in addition to any damage sustained from the attack. Strapped to her side is her trusty Volta pistol, giving her the option of blowing up any attached Meteops. She is a mighty mechanical medic.
Voïvodes are small spider-like robots. Each is capable of hand to hand combat, and each houses a Smiljan Coil, which allows them to channel Zor'ka's magnifier and renders them immune to the Magnifier's deadly discharge. Each of these mechanical marvels moves about the board, threatening to flow forth with awesome electrical arcs capable of taking a character out in one go. Each can hold up to two additional pieces of equipment. The equipment ranges from granting the Voïvode a movement value of 9 to allowing the Voïvode to self destruct inflicting on automatic wound on an adjacent figure. Even more frightening is the ability to be repaired. Both Zor'ka and Irishka have ways to repair these devices should they be damaged or destroyed in the course of the battle. Zor'ka can transfer one wound to any Voïvode within eight spaces of her, as long as the Voïvode can then move next to her. While not subject to reinforcement rules, Voïvodes are surprisingly difficult to remove as a threat. Adding to their deadliness, they count as being equipped with a hand to hand weapon and are completely unaffected by the debilitating effects of the smoke grenade.

The Liturgy of Valor
As many of you have seen, Tannhäuser also has seen many new tokens to represent the various discoveries and promotions found in the world. From John MacNeal's boxing record to the institution of Section KAOS, many of these tokens have popped up. Featured in Novgorod, seven of these tokens are now available as official tokens. Will you swap out the longer range of the Flash Machine Gun for the hard hitting Trench Gun? Will you trade in the Kaiser's pistol for the awesome power of the Helm of Diomedes? The choice is yours with these new tokens.
For the forces facing the power of Gods, Tesla, and the fury of the Matriarchy I say this: be prepared for a long hard fight. Even the power of the Flash Gun and the Sha-Na-Ra quail before the might of these divine warriors.
One last note, Novgorod is shipping to distributors today.

I am pleased to start revealing the finalists for the 2008 Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Scenario Contest.
So without further ado... let's get right to announcing Finalist #1.
Scenario Contest Finalist #1:
Grauschloss By Daniel Niklas Jørgensen
Daniel Niklas Jørgensen’s submission indicates that the scenario was inspired by the literary works of Mervyn Peake, H.P. Lovecraft and Marquis de Sade – an intriguing combination of sources.
![]()
Here’s the scenario overview Daniel provides for his entry:
Grauschloss is a bleak, gothic scenario of investigation and intrigue, ideally run as a stand-alone adventure with four players. In it the players assume the roles of an inquisitorial assembly heeding a call for help by the priest Pieter Schött, who rightly senses that something is terribly, terribly wrong at the keep and in the nearby village of Almburg. Their task is to investigate the murders that have occurred there, discern truth from lies, and hopefully uncover the dark truth of Grauschloss’s history. The central idea behind the scenario is not puzzle-solving, however, but realising a sense of gothic horror that should leave the players squirming in their seats, all the while pushing them to roleplay their characters to the fullest.
What impressed the judges about Grauschloss was the way Daniel addressed the player characters. To create a wholly self-contained experience, Grauschloss includes four very specifically designed player characters. Each pre-generated character has his own personal background, and describes the events leading up to that character’s involvement in the scenario. Each description also provides that character’s feelings and attitude toward the other pre-generated characters, which really helps create some dynamic and interesting roleplaying situations.
The environment, story elements and cast of characters are kept clean and simple, creating a setting in which the story can unfold in a variety of ways depending on how the characters interact with the NPCs - and each other. Coupled with the pre-generated characters, Grauschloss could be easily used as a one-shot introduction to WFRP, or run at conventions.
Congratulations, Daniel Niklas Jørgensen – as one of the finalists, you may be selected as the ultimate winner of the 2008 Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Scenario Contest!
