*The "Winter is Coming" event will be using a limited format in the spirit of FFG's "League" deck building rules.

Each player may use a deck he builds from a limited card pool selected by him; the player's card pool may consist solely of the contents* of:

1. One copy of the Core Set, plus

2. Either (player chooses which option he wants to use):

   a. One copy of the Kings of the Sea expansion, or

   b. One copy each of three different Chapter Packs selected by the player.

The typical deck building parameters for AGoT apply (see the "Tournament Play and Deck Construction Rules" section in the Core Set rulebook), except that the House (draw) deck minimum is reduced to 50 cards.  Also note that where the rulebook says "Your House deck ... may not contain more than three copies of a card", cards with the same title are considered the same for this rule, e.g., the "Robb Stark" in the Core Set is equivalent to the "Robb Stark" in the Kings of the Sea expansion and thus only three copies of those cards (in whatever combination) would be permitted.

Based on George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy epic A Song of Ice and Fire, A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, playable by 2-4 players, brings the beloved heroes, villains, locations, and events of the world of Westeros to life through innovative game mechanics and the highly strategic game play. The Living Card Game™ format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Chapter Pack expansions to the core game.

"Winter is Coming" was a great success ... the NY Metro Wargamers www.nycwargames.com and AGOTNY Players www.agotny.net came ready to melee. The event was set up for two rounds of melee of 2 hours each, with the player first reaching 15 power or the player with the most power at the end of the time limit winning.

One of the things that made the event more enjoyable was the range of experience (from newbie to veteran) was somewhat leveled by the fact that all the players were relatively unaccustomed to melee format. Even the most well honed decks had to be re-engineered for melee, and therefore everyone was confronting new situations and experience surprise at some of the interactions.

Prizes were supplied by the Compleat Strategist www.thecompleatstrategist.com and Jason, lead organizer for AGOTNY. By the time 5:30 rolled around everyone agreed that a "Song of Summer" event was inevitable.
