FFG is proud to announce Descent: Sea of Blood
Descent: Journeys In The Dark | Published 25 August 2009

We’re going to need a bigger ship...

This fall the lands of Terrinoth will have an all new area to explore- The mysterious shores of Torue Albes! This brand new expansion for Descent: Journeys in the Dark is a full length campaign system to be added to your Descent experience. Heroes will be able to sail their ship, which can be upgraded and improved for a price, across the seas. Standing in their way are four new avatars for the dread Overlord to manifest, along with seven new lieutenants that will plague the heroes as they attempt to foil the nefarious schemes being put into motion.

Featuring new enemies for the heroes to battle, islands for them to explore, treasure to be unearthed, and ship-to-ship battles to prove their heroism, this expansion promises to be some of the biggest adventure to be found this year. Cannons may be added to your ship to increase your prowess on the seas, and heroes can now swing from the ropes to board enemy vessels. Discover ancient islands, journey down into the depths of all new dungeons, and scout out the rumors that are spoken of in whisper in taverns. Ghost ships, giant crocodiles, bloodthirsty pirates all await the chance to dine on hero, so get kraken... err cracking.

And don’t forget to say hi to Sweetheart, the sweetest addition to the lieutenants...

Descent: Sea of Blood contains;

6 storage boxes for hero, Overlord, and graveyard components
1 Pad of Campaign Sheets
1 Torue Albes Map Board
1 double-sided Ocean Poster Map
10 Power Dice
220 Cards
11 Ship and Map Pieces
Over 225 tokens, including Cannons, Lieutenants, props, map markers, training, and effects

Descent: Journeys in the Dark is a scenario-driven board game that takes a party of adventurers deep into the dungeons of Terrinoth for adventure, treasure, and glory, but beware: the Overlord and his minions stand poised to oppose any heroes foolhardy enough to enter the dungeon. Descent: Sea of Blood takes the game to the next level, introducing campaigns and long-term character development for both the heroes and the Overlord. Cross the dungeon's threshold and step into a world of adventure today!

Sycore,

It seems odd to me that you presume to know everything about how the new campaign works.  There is a new map, new avatars, new tokens, and on and on and on....so wouldn't it be possible to have new rules or better rules too?  Something to think about before you just write off Sea of Blood as more of the same.

Give the commas a little break, Sycore.

After the release of rtl, which is great, i think there is no need, to announce another campaign box, which can't be combined with the old one.

Its hard to play, the campaign, with one Avatar until, the end. So why should I buy, a new expansion, when I haven't played even the existing game, with one of the other Avatars with one of the other gametypes.

So I think, rtl is a good game, which i will play, for over 100 hours and beyond, until I have explored all secrets, and all variants. And therefore i see no need in an new campaign wich delivers the same, but in a stupid "pirate" setting.

What descent really needs, is not a new campaign-expansion but, an expansion wich balances the game. And if this expansion includes some new Avatars, a new map, new dungeons, new, Monsters, and treaures, it would be a worthy one.

Why reinvent the wheel, when you could make it smoother.

So I hope theres more in the box, then just a new campaign with pirates!

It looks like the Lt's, Avatar, Dungeons, Rumors, and (some) Encounters will be able to be combines. There also might be some treasures?

I was wondering if the bosses from Island of dread are Avatars but looking trough photos from GenCon I saw that they aren't. The are some new created just for Sea Of Blood - that's nice becouse it's meaning that we will get more Jesper Ejsing drawing for the game. I love the cover and I'm waiting for more info.

Now you are talking, this is something that will really get things shaken up while playing a campaign. Will be following this closely.

"I guess that we'll see really the Kraken among the seven new Lieutents...."

Unless you want avatars for skeletons/razorwings/ogres/nagas/hellhounds/manticores, they'll probably make entirely new ones. A Kraken would be a better Avatar than lieutenant, IMO.

There will probably be synergy with RtL in the way of Avatars, Lieutenants, plots and dungeon layouts.

I seem to recall the presentation video from GenCon saying that this is another Campaign Expansion for Decsent (the basic game). It is similar to RtL but that expansion is not required to play.

Whether there is some synergies or not I have no idea.

And even though it doens't say so explicitly I for one HOPE that there is a Rule Book in the contents as well...  (: - P)

As far as it is described it is an alternative to RTL. Just like the different figure expansions are separate from each other. However, I wonder if there is any synergy between RTL and this one for a combined game. Would be kinda sad if it wasn't.

I was very excited when I saw there is a new expansion!  Then I read further and discovered it looks like an expansion for Road to Legend.

Sadly, I don't like RtL.  So it disappoints me that this doesn't contain any parts for regular Descent.  I hope I'm jumping to conclusions... but they had better not be phasing out regular Descent.  It's *so* much better than RtL!
