"Aviation is proof that, given the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible."
- Edward Vernon Rickenbacker, World War I Ace
Coming this Summer from Nexus Games and Fantasy Flight Games is the latest expansion for the Wings of War World War I card game and miniatures game: large, durable playmats that feature the countryside below the action in the air.
The Wings of War game mats are large, 98 x 68cm (38.6 x 26.8in), about the size of an average poster, made of a durable rubber foam with fabric bonded to the top, similar to a mouse pad. The game mats are sold as two halves of the same battlefield, East section and West section. Combined, the total size of the battle field is 98 x 136cm (38.6 x 53.6in). The mats can be used as scenario maps for reconnaissance and bombing missions, or as an impressive table covering to enhance your Wings of War experience, immersing you deeper in the rich tapestry of epic duels and heroic effort that took place in the skies during World War I, the birthplace of aerial combat.
Below: the West and East sections of the Wings of War game mats combined.

Wings of War is the innovative card game and miniatures game of World War I air combat. Players take on the roles of famous flying aces from the Great War such as Manfred Von Richthofen and René Paul Fonck and battle for aerial dominance using the revolutionary game mechanics of historically accurate maneuver decks and damage decks.
I was also looking forward to these mats. They look just as good as I expected an F.F.G. games product to be. However I will not pay through the nose just to do free advertising for the firm. One small logo is quite enough. Re design and I will gladly buy a pair of these superb mats.
I too would like it better if the logos were smaller. It seems unrealistic to not expect FFG/Nexus to advertise themselves, but the logos don't need to be so huge...
This is fantastic. I have ben using Axis & Allies Minture maps for my games. I can not wait to get these
Best would be NO logos at all.
Second best is only one logo on each matt, instead of on both ends
Third best would be much smaller logos.
Please reconsider the logos. It makes me much more likely to buy this.
Maybe shrink the logo down to the size of the FFG logo. Honestly if someone comes up and sees this they are going to ask what people are playing and will be told. So it advertises it's self. I too will not buy this if the product looks as advertised now.
Very nice looking artwork but I have to agree with UniversalHead the whole thing its spoiled by the big logos. I'm sorry I can't be more positive as I was really looking forward to the release of these play maps.
I agree with UniversalHead... the mat is great and what I always wanted, but the LOGO ruins the whole thing. I am hoping they are just on there for the preview picture. If they are on the real thing I will not but it as they are WAY TOO BIG and too many. I understand the marketing people probably want to use it as a promotion add on for the casual observer watching a game...but anybody watching that has interest is going to ask anyway... it does ruin the whole illusion. It seems if you just had to put them on, at least only have one per mat and make it smaller…
They're really nice, but please, please, TAKE THE LOGOS OFF! Let's not ruin the illusion shall we? This is almost as bad as the big logo in the middle of the Command & Colors:Ancients board - and at least there there's only one!
More good news for the Wings of War gamers! I can't wait to get my hands on these!
I think this is GREAT news! Been looking forward this since I discovered Wings of War. :D
I think the total size, as the picture, should be 98 x 136 cm. But probably you can play even in a 196 x 68 cm battlefield
