Emerging from the depths this April: Bag of Cthulhu |
| Call of Cthulhu LCG | Published 03 March 2009 | Rating | 33 votes |
The Call of Cthulhu is among H.P. Lovecraft's most well-known stories and encapsulates, in one short work of fiction, the themes that had been building in his work prior to its original publication in 1928 and would continue to permeate his work until his death in 1937.
In this story, the appearance of Cthulhu is described for the first time:
"[A] monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind. ... The cephalopod head was bent forward, so that the ends of the facial feelers brushed the backs of huge fore paws which clasped the croucher's elevated knees. The aspect of the whole was abnormally life-like, and more subtly fearful because its source was so totally unknown."
It is from this description that we at FFG have created our own miniature Cthulhu figure. First introduced in our Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game Core Set, we are making available this April our Bag of Cthulhu. Included in the Bag of Cthulhu, are six large Cthulhu figures (55mm) and 24 small figures (20mm). These miniature statues of Cthulhu are beautifully carved accessories that can be used as extra domain markers and success tokens for your Call of Cthulhu LCG™ games, or they can be used to ornament any game which incorporates horror.
Unlike the six specimens found in the Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game Core Set, the figures in the Bag of Cthulhu have been delicately inkwashed to ensure that you can spot every non-euclidian detail of these little gems.
This April, the stars are right and Cthulhu and his star-spawn descend on your friendly local game and hobby store...
I don't play CCGs, but Arkham Horror is one of my favorite games. I picked up the bag of Cthulhu for that. I use the small ones as doom tokens, and the large ones to indicate sealed locations. Very cool!
To Hybrid:
I know what you mean, I recently bought the old Eldritch Edition Premium Starter set which came with some nice domain cards. Of course I've decided to go hog-wild buying Cthulhu CCG cards lately, so that was ok :-) Which also involves buying a lot of green Dragon Shields....
Or they make really cool desk ornaments at work... where all the closet Cthulhu fans come and talk to you and find out about the COC:LCG.
Great work on these guys!
Very nice accessories to an excellent card game (non-collectible!).
Now all that is needed is a set or two of domains for the game
which were unfortunately entirely absent from the Core Set!
Using extra cards as domains is unsatisifying to say the least.
Already pre ordered two weeks ago from Thoughthammer.
Fantastic. I'll be picking these up.
These are gorgeous! I may have to pick some of these up and heck might even get me into the bloody game!!! Well Done FFG!!!
Let all the Lovecraftian goodness come to life in these tiny little Cthulhus!
