Now that the Dark Elves have launched new raids from the City of Winter, the free men of the Empire are forced to muster their military strength and defend their borders once again.
As the Old World’s races scramble to deal with the fallout of City of Winter and its impact on Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game, the Empire is no exception. Long has the Empire stood as the mightiest of all human realms and the greatest nation of the Old World, and now The Imperial Throne rallies its armies for the inevitable battles.
The heartbeat of the Empire
Religion is the heartbeat of the Empire, and every commander knows his men fight better when Sigmar is with them. While the other nations all muster powerful forces from their capitals, the Emperor calls for a Doubling of the Guard (The Imperial Throne, 112), and among the first to answer the call are the mighty priests who rally at the Cathedral of Sigmar (The Imperial Throne, 111).
With the release of The Imperial Throne, Doubling of the Guard, and Cathedral of Sigmar, each of the races from Warhammer: Invasion will have received a Tactic that offers rewards for discarding a card from hand with high loyalty and a Capital Center that provides a tactical bomb to trigger several rounds after its play. Of course, it doesn’t take any sophisticated math to realize that your extra copies of a Capital Center can be used to fuel your loyalty-based Tactic, and we see powerful, early mobilization in the future for Empire decks packing both Doubling of the Guard and Cathedral of Sigmar.
Blessings of the gods… and a few surprises
Card draw is a major consideration for each competitive player and competitive deck in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game. Throughout much of 2011 and early 2012, the Empire has fielded a dominant deck, keyed off the power of Judgement of Verena (Core Set, 49), but the European Champion Jakub Serafin was able to counter the power of Verena and conquer Stahleck with a Dwarf deck that featured heavy draw mechanisms to set up his combination of Dwarf Ranger (Core Set, 10) and Reclaiming the Fallen (The Silent Forge, 2).
But the Empire gains excellent early draw potential with Doubling of the Guard and can use it with City Gates (Core Set, 40) and Innovation (Core Set, 119) to establish a strong early board position.
Cards in your hand result in power on the table. As The Imperial Throne mandates a Doubling of the Guard, you can look for the Empire to make their power felt during the battles of The Capital Cycle.
Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game is a card game by Eric M. Lang in which 2 players develop their kingdoms and lay waste to their foes. Each side is comprised of either the forces of Order or the forces of Destruction as they seek to extend their empire to include the entire Old World. The Living Card Game format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Battle Pack expansions to the core game.
I really wish this game had an arrow to indicate payments like Vs System did(I think magic has them too). Then people wouldn't get so confused about them.
Yes, Capital Centers trigger only if a resource token was just removed and none remain. So to get a Capital Center to trigger a second time, a new token would have to be added to the card.
"best High Elf card" in this cycle is certainly open to interpretation. ; )
Personally, I was disappointed in the HE pack for this cycle. (Don't surrender hope for the High Elves though.)
yeah...the best High Elf card didn't even come in the High Elf battle pack. Convocation of Eagles came in the Dark Elf pack!
Teokrata, that is a good question and may need to be in the next FAQ. You can really read the card both ways. Definitely saved the best for lasts, IIeopsoas.
