Science Gone Mad 9
Forbidden Alchemy, a Mansions of Madness expansion, is now on sale
Mansions of Madness | Published 15 December 2011

"The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."
     –H.P. Lovecraft

Over the past several weeks, we’ve caught brief and terrifying glimpses of the horrors that await in Arkham’s abandoned laboratories and classrooms. Now, our sanity-bending experimentation has finally yielded its result; Forbidden Alchemy, a Mansions of Madness expansion, is now on sale at your local retailer and on our webstore!

This exciting expansion provides players with new investigators, as well as new Trauma, Mythos, and Combat cards for use in any story. Forbidden Alchemy also includes three new tales of scientific horrors, in which investigators will encounter new rooms, monsters, items, clues, locks, and obstacles. Try to solve the new Alchemy puzzles, if you dare. But be warned, the side effects may prove deadly.

A new cast of characters

Forbidden Alchemy introduces four new investigators to your horrifying tales. Cameraman Darrell Simmons is no stranger to the peculiar goings-on of Arkham, and the bone saw-wielding Doctor Vincent Lee brings the steady hands of a veteran surgeon to your adventures. Meanwhile, the skilled illusionist Dexter Drake aspires to greater arcane powers, and psychologist Carolyn Fern bases her arts in more rational, scientific endeavors. With its range of characters, abilities, and equipment, Forbidden Alchemy further bolsters Mansions of Madness’ already significant replayability.

Ready for new tales of horror? Forbidden Alchemy features three horrifying stories of scientific discovery gone horribly awry.

In “Return of the Reanimator,” the investigators are tasked with entering a vermin-infested manor to seek the whereabouts of Doctor Herbert West, a reportedly insane scientist whose legendary experiments in reanimation led to his untimely demise. Meanwhile, “Yellow Matter” tells the grim tale of research into strange extraterrestrial beings. But who is the experimenter, and who is the subject? Finally, “Lost in Time and Space” takes your Mansions of Madness experience to mind-bending new heights with the introduction of time travel! Travel back to the mid-nineteenth century or ahead to the mid-twenty-first in your search for the truth behind a strange and dangerous device.

Enter the laboratory

With four clever new investigators, two terrifying monster types, nearly 250 new cards, 40 tokens and markers, and six detailed map tiles, Forbidden Alchemy introduces a host of new enhancements to your Mansions of Madness experience. Read our detailed series of preview articles or download the rules (pdf, 7.2 MB) to learn more, then visit your local retailer to witness the results of science gone mad!

Mansions of Madness is a macabre game of horror, insanity, and mystery for two to five players. Based on the beloved fiction of H.P. Lovecraft, Mansions of Madness tells a story in which one player takes on the role of the keeper, a malevolent force working to complete a sinister plot, and all other players take on the roles of investigators, the unlikely heroes who gather to oppose him.

What a surprise. This game is fully cursed, I swear. FFG are becoming plagued by the "Triple P" threat of doom.

Production, Playtest, and Proofreading.

Add a fourth and fifth P for: "Expecting customers to Pay a Premium for subpar products".

This would be funny if it wasn't becoming an actual trend.

Though I am sure the FFG will fix this issue, I do want to hear how they will do so before proceeding to buy this product too.

Guys from FFG. I've read that there is a big mistake with one of the scenarios. It can't be build 'cause two rooms needed to are printed in both sides of the same tile. What are you going t do with this? New reprint? Will be fixed in new editions? Thanx.
