With 60 new cards (3 copies each of 20 unique cards), nearly half of which are devoted to the High Elves, Realm of the Phoenix King is an ideal Battle Pack for players looking to develop their High Elf strategies. It also supports the High Elves’ enemies and allies with new attachments, units, and tactics that can fit in any deck.
White Lion Champion
With Realm of the Phoenix King, the High Elves gain the service of a powerful new Warrior, the White Lion Champion (Realm of the Phoenix King, 26). Serving in the Phoenix King’s personal guard, the White Lion Champion wears the traditional white lion pelt of his order. Each White Lion Champion is a great hunter, and his pelt is taken from the dangerous beast he must slay to earn the right to accompany the Phoenix King.
At two power for just three cost, the White Lion Champion is a welcome addition to the High Elves’ ranks. The High Elves have historically suffered for early game acceleration. Three cost is the magic number when you draw your opening hand and start thinking how to play cards into your zones. The High Elves have very few units at one cost, and they’re even more limited as to where those units can apply power. While the High Elves’ ranks include many units of two cost, you can’t play two of them until you start powering up your kingdom zone. Unless you draw a Contested Village (Core Set, 111) to pair with a two-cost unit, you’re unlikely to get more power for your three cost than the White Lion Champion can offer. Even if you get the Contested Village, playing two cards to get two power is less card efficient than playing the White Lion Champion and using the extra card from hand to develop a zone.
It’s true that the High Elf Spearmen (Assault on Ulthuan, 4) also offer the High Elves two power for three cost, but they have only one hit point, making them vulnerable to many of the Dark Elves’ machinations. Meanwhile, there’s no reason you can’t put three copies of both the White Lion Champion and High Elf Spearmen into your deck and increase your chances of early game acceleration.
Because he can’t be restored, the White Lion Champion may prove vulnerable against Chaos and strategies aimed at corrupting your units, but the High Elves have ways of warding him from corruption entirely. For zero cost, the non-unique Blessing of Isha (Core Set, 53) renders the White Lion Champion immune to the corrupting influence of the Ruinous Powers.
Enemies on all sides
The High Elves have a long history of war, and their enemies also gain strength from Realm of the Phoenix King. New goblins, diseases, cavalry, and skaven assemble around the shores of Ulthuan, ready to prey on the first show of weakness in the High Elves’ defenses.

FFG really, who is responsible for HE cards? Because you release weak cards and then you release weird articles about their usage. Let me remind you 'combo' released in this article about Caradryan.
Or how would you explain Straits of lothern compared to Looted umie town (which is a weak support too).
Are you doing this on purpose or just don't like High elves, or High elves players?
And one more thing : I love games for fun, but 'for fun' doesn't mean playing with uber lame cards, by 'for fun' i mean interesting or funny combo or sth.
really grim joke... White Lion Champion can't be played on 1st turn and even if that was possible that isn't good move becouse overpowered Empire (When Derrickcburg Forge will be restricted?!) can easy counter it with Hidden Grove + Long Winter, Called Back or Osterknacht's Elite thx to Peasant Milita, Chaos can kill him with Warhounds, DE with Seasoned Corsair with Walking Sacrifice, Orcs can do that with Lobber Crew or Easy Pickins and this is much worse when oponent is starting and can play on his second turn things like Blood Dragon Knight. Dear FFG - are U playing your own game? In Poland 70 people was playing in last National Championships, we enjoy the game, but don't like un-pro moves like this article. In my opinion based on turnament plays HE and DE are the weakest factions in the becouse they don't have support and development control so new heroes are nice, but I except little more good cards for elves and less powerfull cards for Empire, which need restrictions! How poor is White Lion Champion in comparison with Derrickburg Forge, Contested Village, Huntsman, Warpstone Excavation opening?! Please stop torture elf players...
Seriously... most people play this game for 'fun'. NOT in tournaments. Hence it doesn't matter much if not all cards are topnotch all the time. I'm actually starting to get annoyed by the constant pushing and whining of tournament players across all LCG Lines. Heck even Lotr is getting it. And the LOTR LCG's primary purpose was clearly to be a cooperative game where flavor supersedes minmaxing.
Guys, author of this text knows better than all of you so please stop complaining about uselessness of that card :D
I would like to make it clear. I would never ever wanted to have this card on my opening hand. Why? Because having one unit in first turn (more over without Innovation you're not able to put this unit into play in round one!) it's very risky, just look FFG:

Those cards (except Called Back) are in almost every deck of it's faction, and their are mostly keep due to their big control power during first turns. Each time when we face those cards with our "cool" new Lion we will be at least one Power behind our enemy. I dont know how would anyone put those Lions and Spearmans together in one deck! It's so wrong! :-) This Lion is one of the worse cards in this set. Has normal stats (today unit for 3 with 2 hp isnt good idea) and small drawbacks and NO ability. Instead of promoting this card I would rather point out on new Hero which probably is one of the best cards in this set (along with InFlame, Star Dragon and Phoenix Ward).
This guy has two loyality. Also, even if he would have 1, it is a tragic beginning. Warhounds, Corsair, Easy Pickin's, Lobber Crew, Sacrifice to Khaine, Osterknacht Elite etc. - anything can remove this guy and then we have nothing on the 2nd turn. Also, there are many more better ways to put more power - Innovation/Warpstone Excavation, Envoy from Avelorn, Citadel of the Dusk.
Author of this article clearly does not even play the game. This probably explains why HE get such units as this one which will never appear on table during a tournament. FFG really should not assume that players are idiots.

Too bad the White Lion Champion costs 2 loyalty. Can't play on the 1st turn.
