The fourth Adventure Pack in the Shadows of Mirkwood cycle for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, The Hills of Emyn Muil introduces a scenario unlike any that have come before it. After the heroes of Middle-earth caught Gollum’s trail in The Hunt for Gollum, their battle with a fearsome pack of trolls in Conflict at the Carrock and their sudden detour on A Journey to Rhosgobel caused them to lose time. Now, in The Hills of Emyn Muil, Gollum’s trail has grown cold, and the heroes must scour the crags and valleys to find fresh signs of the elusive creature.

Ride to glory, ride to ruin

The Hills of Emyn Muil demand your fellowship commit to their quest in force each turn to inspect the treacherous hills and mires for signs of Gollum. If you don’t commit multiple characters to the quest, you’ll likely lose ground; Gollum is a slippery creature, and his trails can lead through any of Emyn Muil’s many hidden locations. However, when you do commit heavily to the quest, you leave yourself vulnerable to the enemies lurking around each bend, or concealed behind large boulders.

While time doesn’t tick away in The Hills of Emyn Muil as it did during A Journey to Rhosgobel, time is not on your side. Each turn you conduct your search across hills and streams, Gollum keeps moving. While he keeps moving, the number of possible locations in which he could be hidden increases and increases. The threat of losing him in any of those locations continues to mount, and you need to explore them as quickly as possible.

In one of our preview articles, we looked at the sacrifices you must be prepared to make in order to lead your fellowship to success. Now that your heroes have arrived at the Emyn Muil, they must stay focused. While a good leader hopes to bring everyone safely through the hills, he also knows his allies understand the importance of their quest. Locating Gollum may be the key to finding the One Ring and thwarting Sauron, and the noble Rohirrim ride into The Hills of Emyn Muil, prepared to sacrifice their lives if they must so that their families and friends–and all the free people of Middle-earth–may live. If they must Ride to Ruin (The Hills of Emyn Muil, 78), they do so with honor and commitment to a greater cause.

Don’t let the Rohirrim’s sacrifice be made in vain. Pick up Gollum’s trail in The Hills of Emyn Muil today, now on sale at your local retailer and on our webstore.

The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is a cooperative card game that puts 1-2 players (or up to four with an additional Core Set) in control of the most powerful characters and artifacts of Middle-earth. Players will select heroes, gather allies, acquire artifacts, and coordinate their efforts to face Middle-earth’s most dangerous fiends. The Living Card Game format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Adventure Pack expansions to the core game.

I really like this card! It provides much appreciated flexibility...how many times did I have a tracker on hand but not enough (spirit) resources...this card can help especially in the early stages!

Strong card. Very nice.

What bugs me is that spirit seems to become a Rohan only sphere. Don' t get me wrong I likje the theme but there's no space left for anything else. Hope this will change.

I think Discard is always from play, unless specifically mentioned from somewhere else (eg. "from hand").  For a Magic player, like me, I unknowingly apply Magic rules for situations that were not mentioned or not clear in the LotR rules, which is wrong.  I gotta be aware of that.

Very excited about Ride to Ruin. The art is rather good and the flavor just great. Still waiting for A Journey to Rhosgobel here in Europe, but the previews of The Hills of Emyn Muil have been very promising so far!
