He took the victory, and the champion’s purse, and, for perhaps the first time in his life, the love of the commons.
–A Song of Ice and Fire, Volume I: A Game of Thrones
Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce The Grand Melee, the second monthly Chapter Pack of the A Tale of Champions cycle of expansions for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game!
Lords, knights, squires, and sellswords all contend on the field of honor striving for the promised tourney prize and perhaps a lady’s favor. But as quickly as alliances form, they fracture and break. Each combatant seeks only his advantage in the chaos that is the Grand Melee tournament. But who will celebrate with feasts and who will dine on crow?
The thin line between tourneys and battles
The Grand Melee introduces 60 cards – 3 copies each of 20 never-before-seen characters, events, locations, and attachments to give you more A Game of Thrones specific multiplayer deck-building options than ever before!
This Chapter Pack delves deeper into the new keywords introduced in this cycle by introducing powerful characters with the Joust and Melee keywords like new versions of Robert Baratheon and Thoros of Myr. For an in-depth look at the keywords introduced in A Tale of Champions check out "Sing A Song of Champions", a two-part article about the cycle by A Game of Thrones developer, Damon Stone.
The Grand Melee also features more support for A Game of Thrones multiplayer game by way of cards that are designed to grow in strength when played against multiple opponents. Cards like the new Varys, Whisper Campaign, and The Smalljon will bring new threats and deadly surprises into your already-tense multiplayer games.
The existing strategies and themes of your favorite Houses will also be explored in The Grand Melee. For fans of House Greyjoy's stinging unopposed challenges, Raiding the Reach will find many a welcome home. House Lannister will also get some new attachment control in the new event Bought and Paid For. These and more will be found in this diverse new Chapter Pack.
Don your armor and prepare to join The Grand Melee in the fourth quarter of 2011!
Based on George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy epic A Song of Ice and Fire, A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, playable by 2-4 players, brings the beloved heroes, villains, locations, and events of the world of Westeros to life through innovative game mechanics and the highly strategic game play. The Living Card Game format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Chapter Pack expansions to the core game.
He is a 4/3 renown character with two icons. IF your opponent defends an attack he jumps up to 4 STR minimum. He will also mak e avery good defender. I think he is pretty darn solid in Joust. he won't make all my decks... but he will probably make all the ones for houses light on renown. In Melee he is a beast. I think he works for both formats with definite betterment in melee, without being broken. I approve.
I think that art is bad ass although I like stylized art in general.
As for the card, not bad, definately looking forward to this cycle, I think it will give some awesome new options to the game.
@locusshifter

Attached card gains the traits: Epic, Awesome, and Winsause.
Flavour text: " Thats totally my jam"
Good card, but I don't like the picture
@Alex,
"If Alexfrombeyondthewall loves this cycle attach his praise to target game publisher. It counts as a Boon."
Your enthusiasm is infectious!
I like the art and the card, although I think it could have been an ability that wasn't limited to melee (it isn't THAT good, and some unique love would be much appreciated!). Glad to see another Brotherhood w/o a no-power restriction!
i dunno i feel like he looks like i picture Syrio Forel
GASP
Syrio Forel = Jaqen Hagar = Thoros of Myr = Pate = Baby Aegon
Dear FFG,
This may be your best CP Cycle yet. My hype is boiling over!
Supporting both joust and melee formats with new mechanics is going to be such a great boon to competitive and casual play. Also, i anticipate this cycle being nedly as hell.
with love,
Alex
I just can't wait for a melee Robert Baratheon and an attachment for the hammer that will give melee, and if they have melee printed will also do something else (like fanaticism). Should be fun.
I'll say this about the artwork, since this is back when he participated in melees while in Kings Landing, I am glad the fire is green from the wildfire he used.
I don´t like the comic style art, but the card is good.
