The Church of the Damned is the second adventure in The Apostasy Gambit, a Dark Heresy campaign that takes a cell of Acolytes from investigating the tragic history of a warped Cathedral to crusading against a conspiracy within one of the Imperium’s most vaunted organisations. While The Church of the Damned continues the events started in The Black Sepulchre, it also includes starting points to be played on its own or as part of your own campaign.

Dark Heresy is a game of investigation, and while there is plenty of action to be had, the core experience is one of mystery and conspiracy. The Church of the Damned sees the Acolytes embracing that role and leading an investigation into the heart of one of the Imperium’s most powerful organizations. Witnesses must be questioned, information researched, and crime scenes examined.
Of course, there is a good deal of combat too, with a variety of new and familiar foes. Hair raising, skin of your teeth, knock down, drag out combat. This may be the deadliest adventure we’ve ever written. Don’t expect to save the entire Calixis Sector and come away with all your fate points... or limbs!

ehm....Where is the planet Stonegarden in the Calixis Sector?
To be honest, I do not know what the fuss about black sepulcher is about... You have a hounted house setting, with lots of opportunity to get rid of players (without any fights... I have just the aparitions of the dynasty there but lots of possible corrupting sources and insanity) and in the end you lay wayste to half a town to get rid of a bbD and are burdened with the truth, which you can not share with anyone. NICE.
Church of the damned is also quite good in my opinion. However one flaw remains: the hinted subplot is only well hinted at. No motivation given, no nothing. This you have to flesh out yourself.
It could LETE, but it's like naming a military thing in the Star Wars setting the 'Vader' - then going 'oh it's not referring to 'that' Vader ... but a different one'. It's a bad idea narratively.
I am very ignorant of all things W40K but, couldn't Macharius refer to the machine's model?
While that's theoretically true guys, a) I strongly doubt that was the writer's intent in using the name, and b) if it was it's a terrible idea to use what would be a confusing name in that way. Especially as the name given is a terrible name for one of what it's naming anyway, in canon all such things have far war-ier names than the one in the module. It's a minor niggle though - I simply changed it.
Macharius could be the name of a place too (maybe there are several places w/this name).
Mecharius could bea family name. And in a galaxy as big as 40K, there could be millions of people name Mecharius.
I thought the core secret/concept of Black Sepulchre (as in the secret inherent to the Haematite Cathedral itself) was brilliant ... but most of the rest of the module - especially the last chapter/big bad was ludicrous to canon-shattering levels. There were also many other canon-shakey problems (not the least of which the use of the name Macharius in connection to the Angevin Crusade ... which happened centuries before Macharius would even be born).
Having said that I recently took out the big-bad daemon (which I felt was unnecessary overkill to say the least), removed the wider plot, and used the cathedral itself as a dungeon. The secret and mystery of the building itself worked a treat - with my players, who pride themselves on 'knowing' 40k inside out, only twigging the answer when they were practically in the final underground chamber. It was indeed a very memorable moment, with them being blown away and loving it.
Ah, the sequel to a book that left me feeling like I had read a walk-through for a first person shooter/puzzle game that had the story shoe-horned into it after the video game was 65% complete. I might buy this one used from someone in a few months for a laugh or more likely groan if I can get it for less then $10.00.
Now, why doesn't someone poke Alan Bligh a bit and see about getting another adventure or even three from him? There's a man who really knows his way around good scenario design as well as (of course) the 40k universe.
Dont get me wrong, Ill break down and buy it jsut to get my Dark Heresy fit (heck I even buy Rogue Trader and Deathwatch stuff to get my Dark Heresy fit, its like a crack addict drinking beer, it aint crack but its something). Right now my new drug is Dust though.
Going to have to pass on this one as well.
The first installment was a bit of a let down.
Well, that could be true - the Black Sepulchre pretty much hit bottom with me... Only way now is up?
