On either side and in front wide fens and mires now lay, stretching away southward and eastward into the dim half-light. Mists curled and smoked from dark and noisome pools. The reek of them hung stifling in the still air.
–The Two Towers
After scouring the Emyn Muil for signs of Gollum, the heroes of Middle-earth followed his trail south. Now Gollum takes desperate risks to elude the heroes in a realm of treacherous fens and mires.
Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce the upcoming release of The Dead Marshes, the fifth Adventure Pack in the Shadows of Mirkwood cycle for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game! The hunt for Gollum draws to a close… unless he finds his way to escape once and for all.
The Dead Marshes introduces a Quest featuring the new Escape mechanic that allows players to experience how slippery Gollum can be! Additionally, players will find more Treachery, Attachment, and Ally cards, as well as a new Hero whose text evokes one of the most dramatic scenes from The Fellowship of the Ring.
Keeping Hold of Gollum
Gollum began to scream, a thin, tearing sound, very horrible to hear. He writhed, and tried to get his mouth to his ankle and bite the rope. He kept on screaming.
–The Two Towers
While previous expansions forced heroes to gather clues, engage in a fearsome melee, heal a wounded eagle, and scour multiple locations to relocate Gollum’s trail, The Dead Marshes finds Gollum within the heroes’ sight. However, the heroes will learn that finding Gollum and getting their hands on him are two entirely separate matters.
The Dead Marshes expansion features the new Escape mechanic, a unique element to this scenario. Each turn, as the heroes commit to the Quest, chasing Gollum through the mire, Gollum’s Escape checks pose them an additional challenge.
Once the heroes get their hands on Gollum, they’ll have to keep hold of him to complete their Quest–a task easier said than done. The heroes may need to corner Gollum more than once before they finally capture him for good, but they have to be wary. The Dead Marshes are home to drakes and other terrifying creatures. Meanwhile, Sauron’s influence grows as the heroes travel nearer Mordor.
With 60 new cards for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, The Dead Marshes enhances existing decks and introduces a wholly fresh Quest experience.
Keep checking this site for previews, and prepare for the journey to get your hands on Gollum in The Dead Marshes, coming to stores in the third quarter of 2011.
The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is a cooperative card game that puts 1-2 players (or up to four with an additional Core Set) in control of the most powerful characters and artifacts of Middle-earth. Players will select heroes, gather allies, acquire artifacts, and coordinate their efforts to face Middle-earth’s most dangerous fiends. The Living Card Game format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Adventure Pack expansions to the core game.

A long way off? Q3 starts next month. However, since this is AP5 it should be released in October or November.
Well, if you're all done arguing semantics... :) His card text could have something about sacrificing him to defend another of your heroes, like he defended Merry and Pippin, maybe an effect similar to Beorn's? Or just increase his defense or attack to gain a wound or two.
Right now I am taking my Grade 11's through the Fellowship of the Ring novel. I can only guess at which scene they are referring to. The bridge at Kazadhum is certainly a candidate, however the idea of a hero Gandalf is out (as mentioned). Weathertop is certainly intense, so we may see another hobbit come out as we have Aragorn. The council of Elrond was not as intense in the novel, but certainly has alot of hero options. Perhaps from Lorien, we may see Galadriel, Haldir, or Celeborn. Otherwise I can't imagine any other points that standout above the others. (I stand to be corrected of course).
Toq if you read the text it says:as well as a hero whose text evokes one of the most dramatic scenes from The fellowship of the ring.
Qwerty is right Boromir died at the start of the second book(the two towers) but wen i raid scenes i thought they ment the movies :))).But then it came to my mind that this game has nothing to do with the movies.
In the Two Towers, yes. Books FTW
Servant, this game is before the trilogy takes place so we will not see Boromir's death.
Qwerty, I have no idea what you are talking about but Boromir does die.
I would love to see Boromir enter the game in this or any other pack.
@Servant! Boromir doesn't die in Fellowship. But he does engage in some betrayal! Spoiler Alert!
It's gotta be Rosie Cotton, Dragonslayer. Or Boromir. Maybe Tactics will get a hero who quests well! And Q3 starts in a month.
I want an attachment that reads as unique, restricted, cost 0. Attach to a hero. Exhaust this card to add one resource token to it(the card). Resources on this card may only be spent to play events. Unspent resources on this card are lost at the end of turn :P And make it a tactics card. Or is that busted?
We have to major dramatic scenes in the fellowship:Boromir's death and Gandalf's fall from the bridge of Khazad-Dum.I am 99% sure that we will not see a hero version of Gandalf so fast so i bet all my money on Boromir.
The fine print on the bottom says 2011 Q3... really? That is a long way off...
Probably Boromir...Would be cool if we got Tom Bombadil, though the Dead Marshes are not really his nape of the neck or neck of the nape.
Very nice alternative use of questing. I could foresee many possible evolution to this game, but didn't thought of this one.
Although I didn't get it all (Escape 3, wut?), it looks great!
