Mansions of Madness is a macabre game of horror, insanity, and mystery for two to five players. Based on the beloved fiction of H.P. Lovecraft, Mansions of Madness tells a story in which one player takes on the role of the keeper, a malevolent force working to complete a sinister plot, and all other players take on the roles of investigators, the unlikely heroes who gather to oppose him.

Things criticism about proof-reading might have carried more weight if he had caught his own typos (e.g. "vidieo")!

Never-the-less, the amount of card errata is definitely annoying for a game with supposedly high production values.

Thanks for the FAQ. It is quite helpful.

That said. I find it puzzling that such lengths were made to correct production issues with Chinese manufacturers (sort of, the tiles in my copy are curling enough to be unacceptable) yet issues that could have been corrected domestically were allowed to slide to such a degree.

In short, the errata list is far too long for a company such as FFG to have in an initial print run for a highly anticipated game that is certain to have massive sales due to association with Arkham Horror. It's kind of a let down and a shame that it occurred.

Awesome game, but it's terribly sloppy when the asking price is $80. It is difficult to justify the purchase when such issues are present. Had I known before hand what I know now, as much as I enjoy this game and the Lovecraft genre as a whole, I would have skipped it.

I'm glad to see so many others mention their displeasure about constant errata and discrepancies.  I struggle to think of ANY FFG game that hits the shelf that doesn't some some wrong components.

I'm still waiting for them to produce replacement cards for my Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay too - NO, 'High Quality PDFs' are not good enough!

 How many testers and proofreaders could be hired and not to send the price over the top? There are hundreds of plays now played by buyers and so lot more things are emerging.

This games -like MoM, AH, Galactica - are so complex that you need lots of betatesting and those Btesters are "in" the problem so deep, that they overlook some discrepancies. And I do not blame them too much.

The theme is great, gameflow also and I am willing to repair problems according to post release errata and FAQ. Other option is to play Monopoly.

Thank you Corey for a great game and speedy FAQ (and I hope for second batch, because some questions are not yet answered).

I'm with Thing in the Attic and the others. It's not a cheap game. And if you delayed it by some months because the minis didn't match your standards, then you should have enough extra-time to avoid errata and so on.

Besides, I'm glad the FAQs are out, but it's a shame that many games have their FAQs updated hyper-quickly, and all we Arkham Horror fans are still expecting the new FAQ to be released. It's a two years time now, and the community need them

This is starting to bug me. I own a lot of FFG's games and they all are big fun. Good ideas, good themes, nice mechanics, very beautiful pieces and everything made with a quality you don't often find in boardgames. Especially the cardboard tokens are very stable and hard-wearing. No complaints at all so far, BUT -  the rules. The rules are good, but, as written, they hardly ever work. There are misprints, wrong connections, wrong names for things, rules that hardly work in play which one should have noticed the first time it was tried. There are two problems.

1. Nobody who knows what they are doing seems to proofread them. The missing link between the card as named in the story inventory and the actual card name: obviously a change of name that didn't make it to all the places the card was mentioned. Someone bothering to use a search and replace function would easily have avoided that mistake.

2. People seem to design the game and then write down all the rules and functions without any consideration for system, order, clarity and careful breaking up into chapters and paragraphs. Any lawyer who likes games could do a better job in his spare time.

So, my suggestion to FFG: why don't you stop paying people to mess up the rules and give the job of sorting them out, systemizing and proofreading them to the community here who like the games and are prepared to think about them? (Note: I mean the design of the rule book, not the game) It could make the games cheaper, too. The same goes for playtesting because obviously there is not near enough of that before publication. There are hundreds of people out here who would give their right tentacle to playtest a new game/expansion and tell you what works and what doesn't.

I know this is probably not read by FFG and so far it doesn't have to be. Anyone willing to conduct a poll on the boards and then present it to FFG via the proper channels?

 Hopefully, they may follow the same model they did with Arkham Horror and release corrected components, etc, in the first expansion pack. 

I have to say it is first class that they jumped on these errors so quickly and released the FAQ just over a week after release. Hell, I haven't even received my copy yet!

Agreed with all that more careful proofing of product seems to be required.

 Have to give support to the comments by the Thing.  I have been looking forward to this game for quite a while. Even made a special trip to the Roseville Game Center when my local store was out.  Now I wish that you had kept me waiting a little bit longer and fixed all the mis-prints and issues.  It is really a shame to have such great production values, and have so many errors that need to be updated.  I don't think I have ever purchased a game that had within it its own errata and replacement cards!  And now we find there are more.  Skywalker can congratulate your speed for getting this out, but it would be better to congratulate you on producing a game that doesn't require this much revision.

Please consider a method for first edition buyers to get corrected cards - it truly detracts from the setting of the game to either have hand scrawled updates on the cards, or have to remind people in mid-game to look in a couple locations for errata.

Definitely is going to make me wait for later reprints and not rush out to get a new game....

this is a bit of a joke. i paid £58 quid for my game and i have to scrawl errata on my cards and rule books to play them right?

well i have the little proof of purchase token, these cards should be revised and given for free to those with the POP token.  

I was going to hold off buying this game for this very reason, but FFG enticed me with their awsome previews and vidieo review and now i have a botched product.

FFG -stop hiring executives and hire more playtesters and proof readers. Nearly every game i've bought from you needs me to amend cards and pages of rules. ie, Tide of iron, battlestar galactica, arkham horror, and now mansions of madness.

love the games but hate the errata 

remember - Proof readers and play testers!! and replacement components for POP holders

I'm seriously considering buying only second printings until FFG hires a decent proofreader. It's getting worse and worse.

Glad to see these issues addressed, and so quickly. The Witchcraft card was especially troublesome as worded, since it created an infinite loop, and Dark Ritual is no longer OP.
