A preview for BattleLore: Code of Chivalry
Battlelore | Published 07 February 2011

The battle seemed all but lost. A small contingent of vile goblins took the hill, followed by a hulking shadow that looked like a black wave in the moonlight. But no. It was a spider...a spider the size of the queen’s carriage! We lost all hope then, and readied ourselves to throw down arms and flee for the safety of the forest. Before we could, they arrived in their steel raiments, brandishing their longswords against the swelling moonlight. Knights they were, straight out of legend. We regained our courage then and let out the most deafening war cry imaginable as we charged into the fray...

The release of Code of Chivalry, the latest expansion for BattleLore, is creeping closer and closer. Soon your human armies will have access to several units of heavily armored knights, ready to prove their worth on the battlefield! Today we’ll take a look at the two new units introduced in Code of Chivalry: the Mounted Knight Long Swordsmen and the Foot Knight Long Swordsmen.

Knights are the proudest warriors in the land - fearless by nature and resilient in their resplendent armor. To reflect this, knight units are always considered Bold and may ignore a flag result when attacked and can possibly battle back. Because of their well-forged armor, they may also ignore one additional bonus strike rolled against them in combat. These abilities make the knights a great choice for frontline fighters. Without having to worry about keeping other units close by to grand them the Bold ability, they are stalwart fighters that can stand well on their own.

Mounted Knight Long Swordsmen wield one of the most effective weapons in combat - the Long Sword. These superior swords allow the Mounted Knight Long Swordsmen to score a hit on all bonus strikes rolled, regardless if their opponent is mounted or on foot. This combined with their excellent speed makes them a frightening opponent from nearly anywhere on the battlefield!

Unlike their mounted brethren, the Foot Knight Long Swordsmen are able to ignore one bonus strike result from ranged weapon attacks that would normally score a hit. Without the restraint of keeping a mount in check, these steel clad warriors wield their shields with deft accuracy. In addition, these troops are well-versed in maintaing their formation, meaning they may Gain Ground after a successful attack either eliminates their opponent’s unit or forces them out of their hex. If that wasn’t enough, they also have the chance to make a Bonus Melee attack after gaining ground!

It is important to note that all Knight units are composed of three figures, whether mounted or not.

These exciting additions are waiting to join your human armies, so prepare your troops for the upcoming release of Code of Chivalry!

Set in a world that bridges history and fantasy, BattleLore is board game that puts 2 players in command of a vast array of miniature troops on the battlefields of medieval Europe. Using the easy-to-learn Commands and Colors system, players can wage thrilling battles quickly!
