Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is a roleplaying game that sets unlikely heroes on the road to perilous adventure, in the grim setting of Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy world. Players will venture into the dark corners of the Empire, guided by luck and Fate, and challenge the threats that others cannot or will not face.
Oh good! Everything that should have been released at launch is finally coming out!
Seriously. At the very least the player pack should have been out a year ago.
And they're basically giving us the game nearly everyone wanted "without the components."
They should have been optional in the first place. I still would have bought them. It just frustrates me to see a product I really wanted to like handled so poorly.
"Of special interest are the three hardcover Guide Books that will release before the end of the year."
"The Player’s Vault, the Game Master’s Vault, and the Creature Vault will be available around the same time as the Guide Books."
- excerpts form Shifting Through Shadows 2010-2011
So it would seem before Christmas we could be getting Edge of Night, Signs of Faith, the three "Guide" books and there "Vault" expansion materials. I can understand how the Guide and Vault supplements might take some players aback, however I for one am very excited. Good work FFG!
Oh, I see. I misunderstood the Creature Collection concept. That makes things more interesting, though I really don't want to see FFG move away from the excellent concept behind the components/dice that were central to the system. Having the stand-alone hardcover books out for players/GMs seems to dilute this a bit.
I personally would rather see more expansions in the style they have been released, though this seems to pick up again with the 2011 releases, though perhaps the hardcovers will bring in more players. And that's never a bad thing.
So ok, maybe I spoke too soon...
Sorry you're not impressed, but for clarification, before Xmas you get 3 releases with new content:
- Signs of Faith
- Edge of Night
- Creature's Guide (and the Creature Vault component supplement)
The creature release is 95% new content, and 100% new tools.
Wait...so basically after Signs of Faith, we get three pricey, hardcover versions of all the info we already have and reprints of the bits we already have in separate boxes? Really? And then we have to wait until 2011 to get any new content? And this is considered a good idea?
Color me completely unimpressed.
That Dwarf supplement cannot come out fast enough! Sorry to see it is the last in the list. :(
This is what I've been waiting for! Thanks FFG!
