Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is a roleplaying game that sets unlikely heroes on the road to perilous adventure, in the grim setting of Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy world. I miss these. They brought a great feel to the game.
I am honestly surprised that people didn't see this coming a mile away. I did. I only wish that they had given us a heads up earlier, I would have passed on the core set. I like HC books better, and I prefer to have a book that lists all the "actions/talents/etc. It just seems to me an easier uption then thumbing through a big ol'deck of cards. In other words-I am sold on it.
AWESOME! Totally psyched about all the great stuff coming out way. Finally a more component-friendly format for tracking monsters too!
So it seems that the GM and Player's Guide HCs will not have anything that owners of the core set need, but what about the Vaut Boxes? Will these just contain pieces that we already own, or will there be new ones? I hope will get more information about the contents of these boxes soon.
Regarding Lonelawyer's comment: While personally I don't miss them that much, I also find it odd, that the halflings have not been adressed anywhere yet and apparently won't be anytime soon.
What?!...still no rules for halfling PCs!!! (or have I missed something obvious?)
I do look forward to the bestiary though.
Can we have a clear answer to if we need the Creatures Guide and Creatures Vault or if the Vault contains all the information.
Ok, I would like to have an anwser did I get things right. I readed the new FAQ and I would like to know If I get it all right.
Those new format book are just the optional version of the core set + winds of magic book + signs of faith book (without the Tzeentch and Nurgle books). There is nothing new in those just all the material gathered in one place. So if You have the core set there is no need to buy GM Guide, GM Vaults, Players Guide and Players Vaults.
The new stuff will be only in Creatures Guide and Creatures Vaults.
The other game titles will be still in the old format - one box with cards and books just like The Gathering Storm was.
There will be no new books in the new format - it is only made for the optional version of the core set.
This set is definitely a must-buy for me. I really liked the system and the dice that WFRP3 uses, but never liked the components that came with the game.
I don't understand why FFG now decides to go in the same direction with Warhammer FRPG like any other rpg out there. The innovative, different setup of WHFRPG was one reason why i bought me into it.
Now... the news here indeed feel like a ripoff. I was expecting new stuff, not old stuff with updated rules just to get us to buy the same thing twice...
FFG should just open their own loan office, there is so many great products coming out for so many games. =P
Wow, I really like what you have planned for WHFRP. Good to see the creature guide and vault as that's what I feel is currently lacking in the game right now. As a WHFB player I'm glad to see hints at rules that will enable us to use more of our ideas that spring from the Army books by GW. I'm very pleased to see the Khorne ruinous power coming.
I sympathise with some of the worries people have expressed but some of these are things that people have been asking for for a long time ie the player onjly bits available seperately so each player can get their own bits.
@NiallNai: Why would each player in a group suddenly want to buy the full kit? Does everybody in your group also have their own copy of the Core Set? Because that's also $80-100.
As far as I can tell, these new Guides are aimed at people who want to play WFRP3 without all the cards and bits, and other than rules for playing like that, they probably don't add much to the Core Set. Except for the Creature Guide, I think. Filling and entire book with what's really only a handful of pages in the Core Set sounds unlikely, so I expect that will contain a lot more creatures, or more information on the creatures.
My guess is that the Vaults are just extra boxes of the bits that are in the Core Set. So you can make your own Core Set by buying all the Guides and Vaults. Or you can pick up the Player's Vault if you just want to add up to 3 more players to your Core Set.
At least, that's what this sounds like to me. I'd love to hear from someone more knowledgeable if I'm right.
