The loathsome children of Nurgle do his bidding on the mortal plane, spreading the gifts of plague and disease. Among the most painful and debilitating of maladies – a list that includes Red Pox, Tomb Rot, Gutter Worms, and Oozing Eye – are the Effulgent Boils. The hapless victim’s skin burns and throbs as shining blisters begin to spread across its surface, quickly filling with oily pus. The pain is unbearable and incapacitating, and even the stoutest of warriors soon find themselves prone on the battlefield, desperately clutching at their anguished bodies as they pray for a death that is all too slow to come.
Welcome back to the Warhammer: Invasion card of the week spotlight, in which we preview another exciting upcoming card. The Burning of Derricksburg is now in stores and The Enemy Cycle has begun. Today, we’ll continue our look at The Fall of Karak Grimaz, the next Battle Pack coming your way.
Like Seduced by Darkness, the Chaos support card Effulgent Boils is an inexpensive way of taking a troublesome enemy unit out of commission. The difference is that Effulgent Boils is more or less permanent, effectively making it the inverse of the High Elves’ Blessing of Isha.
Apart from the obvious benefit of preventing the target unit’s participation in combat, permanent corruption can also bolster a number of other Chaos cards. Melekh the Changer, Winged Fury, Spreading Darkness... each of these cards (and several more) gain power from enemy corrupted units.
Then consider the preventative value of such a card. Enemy units that gain abilities by corrupting themselves (like that pesky Deathmaster Sniktch) can be put down once and for all. And front line enemy units that previously presented an insurmountable defense (like Sword Masters of Hoeth) can be neutralized.
Finally, you may have noticed the “disease” keyword. Going forward you’ll see this more often, and the possibility of building a Nurgle-themed deck around this effect will soon emerge. Keep watching...
Join us next time when we preview another upcoming card for Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game!
Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game is a card game by Eric M. Lang in which 2 players develop their kingdoms and lay waste to their foes. Each side is comprised of either the forces of Order or the forces of Destruction as they seek to extend their empire to include the entire Old World. The Living Card Game format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Battle Pack expansions to the core game.
My chaos corruption deck just got a whole lot better.
Disease - Old Daddy Nurgle is coming to town ! Yes, those cards look nice and in august we will have them!
If you have a unit with BoI on it, then EB does nothing. (Cant corrupt, its effect of cant restore will never happen)
If you have a unit with EB on it, then BoI does nothing because it cannot restore the card (Cannot trumps can) and though it prevents the card from getting corrupted, the card already IS corrupted.
Interesting scenario though ;)
Very efficient removal that ignores HP - strong, and definitely Chaos's first point of call for dealing with its previous nemesis, Clan Moulder's Elite. The only downside is that it's not action speed, so if it was going on a big beater you get beaten before the Boils kick in.
What happens if a unit has Blessing of Isha and Boils on it at the same time? 2 warring "cannot" effects at the same time...
I cant wait to see more of the disease cards.
I hope this also means more mutations, the few they do have are cool.
CHAOS IS BACK, BABY!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Holy CARP!! Awesome - I think I love you James. LOL
