BattleLore: Horrific Horde is now on sale!
Battlelore | Published 30 June 2010

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce a major release that will have Goblinoid commanders across the realm screeching with delight. BattleLore: Horrific Horde Goblin Army Pack, the newest expansion set for BattleLore is now available at your friendly local game store as well as our webstore!

In addition, the rulebook (PDF, 1.1 MB) for Horrific Horde is now available on the BattleLore support page!

BattleLore: Horrific Horde provides forty-two additional figures for your BattleLore army, including two never-before-seen troop types, as well as even more of the primary Goblinoid staples that are available in both the core set and the Goblin Marauders expansion. With all these added units, Goblins will no longer be relegated to serving as mercenary forces for a standard human army. The time has come to let loose the fury of the Horde!

The first new troop type that is found in BattleLore: Horrific Horde is the Goblin Halberdier. Goblin Halberdiers are speedy, highly mobile units that are armed with the medieval equivalent of a giant can opener. When they do stand and fight, they can battle toe-to-toe against most mounted units with some success. This can play a vital role in holding your ground when faced with the cavalry units of your enemies!
The second troop type carries a giant spiked club as its weapon of choice, the powerful Ogre. These gruesome and fierce opponents drive fear into the hearts of the bravest warriors for many reasons, not the least of which is that they fight in groups of three, and are living proof of the old adage "there is strength in numbers." Be wary when you see them lumbering across the battlefield towards your army.

In addition to the new troop types, and all the printed materials, you'll find even more of the units that form the backbone of any Goblinoid menace: Goblin Swordsmen, Hobgoblin Cavalry and Hobgoblin Hyena Riders. For any budding Goblinoid commander this expansion set is sure to be a dream come true!

You'll also find all the appropriate Unit Summary and Specialist cards, plus Weapon Summary cards with the updated Sling rules for use with your Goblin Slinger units. In addition we've included fifteen Deployment cards for use with the Call to Arms expansion set, which will allow you to fully customize your Goblin army and let you tailor your fighting force to the best strategic effect. Finally, a rulebook with five brand new adventures rounds out this fantastic addition to the BattleLore line.

So head to your local retailer or our webstore to pick up Horrific Horde today!

Set in a world that bridges history and fantasy, BattleLore is board game that puts 2 players in command of a vast array of miniature troops on the battlefields of medieval Europe. Using the easy-to-learn Commands and Colors system, players can wage thrilling battles quickly!

@FragMaster: I did see this and was wondering too... maybe we'll see something in the future...

Can somebody tell me what "frenzy" means? its meantioned on the orge-summarycard in an older FFG-announement. Its somehow related to the bonus-hit (sword-on-shield). I was hoping it would be solved in the rule-book, but obviously it isnt...?

Yes - they do make rather a point of the difference between the Ogre and the Giant Ogres... hopefully a wink at observant fans of something for the future!

Hopefully we'll hear more re Battlelore soon.  I imagine a Dwarf expansion similar to this is on the cards, as well as a re-vamped 100 years war set.  Although it may well be that the original Battlelore package is big struggle to deal with, I really hope FFG see it through and keep the game going.  I for one would love to see more armies, but also more of a background and history to the world of the game.

I understand FFG wanting to provide something in the way of official support for owners of all the expansions - I suppose in many ways they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.  In any case - I am excited about this expansion, and hope to hear much more about Battlelore in the future!

I believe that they will be more clear about BL when the dust settles over at the BoW camp. To me it seems like FFG is promoting 100% BoW and 5% BL right now and wait to see if a lot of players will make the transition to BoW and avoid BL due to its problems. Then they can safely continue on with BoW and kill BL.

If this doesn't work out very well then they can announce new BL products along with reprints and go on from there.

At least that's what I'd do if I wanted not to completely dissapoint the fans and not lose money in the process.

It surely looks like from FFG's actions until now that they really want BoW to continue {possibly because it's easier and cheaper for them to manufacture} and not the same for BL.

To be honest I'd greatly appreciate an honest explanation about what are they planning to do about BL instead of this silence paired with BL expansions that don't promise any future. {more Goblins doesn't show anything about the future, I'd say it shows the opposite. That they want to round out BL's races and then shut it down "safely"}.

Anyway, back on topic. Horrific Horde!

Anyone else noticed the sentence about Giant Ogres and Ogres in the manual? Is this just theme or a possible future addition? Giant Ogre as a creature perhaps?

Also, I really really like that some of the new scenarios have increased the Victory requirements {7} and the single most great change that I saw is that some of them finally have a littles bit more complex objectives than "kill X units".

I believe that BL has the fan base that wants more complexity to its rules. Some of BoW more complex rules look nice. Namely the new morale victory condition and Parting Blows. More objective in scenarios.

How about an "Advanced warfare rules" expansion for BattleLore, FFG?

So the Deployment cards in this pack require units from the two out of print Goblin expansions, one of which doesn't look like it will be reprinted?

The scenarios look great and I'll probably grab this, but FFG need to really sort out what they are going to be doing with this line - and let the consumers know.  It's hardly worthwhile getting excited over deployment cards that require me to own other out of print expansions - and to my mind, this aspect of the expansion was the most exciting.  I hope Dwarf and Human expansions that mirror this one are on the way. And that FFG sorts out and is upfront with what it will be doing with the line going into the future.  That's my hope anyway!

Yeah, to hell with the Westeros thing.  I really hope FFG supports BattleLore, even if it's just one release a year.  Now, when the heck is the re-print of Hundred-Years War going to happen?  With all these gobbos running around, I need more humans to stave off the Horrific Horde!

Finkin: as far as I can tell, BoW and BL are related in that they both have "Battles" in them.  And the base units use the same move/attack rate.  Oh, and they both are on hex boards.  So, I guess that makes them 3rd cousins by marriage.  I agree that BL is a great game.  As long as FFG promotes BL, then I hope BoW does well also.

Battles of Westeros is BL related.  You can deny it or protest it all you want but it will not change.  Battlelore is a great game, as I am sure Westeros will be.

I am dying to run a Battlelore event at my local game store, but without the core set in print, what's the point?  It's not like I could generate any sales out of it.

I agree with Frag. Finally, something with the BL stamp that's actually BL.

Published: 6/30/2010 3:39:12 PM

Woohoo!!! Finally something BL-related {yes, Battles of Westeros is not BL-related}. Instant buy. Enough with this Westeros thing.

Gimme gimme the goblins and hurry up announcing something that shows faith in original BL instead of BoW. {wishful thinking...}
