Return of the tenacious and voracious Fungus |

The cosmic wheel dances and spins, with orbits great and small being traced by planets across the sky. From where I sit on some nights, the stars almost appear close enough to touch. As if I could simply reach out my hand, stretch my fingertips just a bit further, to finally make contact with those wondrously bright celestial orbs. So that's exactly what I do.

Messianic is right; Masochist says "Lost ships include those in the warp, those removed from the game, and those captured by other players." It would seem that Fungus should try to keep Masochists' ships in separate Fungoid stacks so that, when Masochist is getting close to winning, Fungus can choose those particular stacks when he loses his own ships to the warp, thus giving folks the opportunity to Heal or Mobius them back into play.
Now, turning from Masochist back to the general effect, in the Eon days you always had the chance to try to get your captured ships back from Fungus by attacking the planet where they were being held. In FFG, I'm wondering how much of an impact the Technology variant will make, since Fungus can (permanently, if he likes) research a tech with a big Fungoid stack, making those captured ships a lot harder to get back. Sort of like Fungus with a bit of Void seasoning.
I don't have it in front of me, but I think there are 3 ways that Masochist's shipped are "killed" in order for him to win: being in the Warp, being eradicated by Void or by a flare that does the same removing from the game, or third, I remember it mentioning by CAPTURE. This means Fungus would actually HELP Masochist out MORE than Void because Void has to win as a main player and gains no personal benefit directly from Eradicating to help him win future encounters.
Nice. So there is no upper limit to the number of ships one Fungus can capture? One ship can capture more than one type of alien at once?
Also, would captured ships keep the Masochist from winning? What happens if an entire alien race remaining in the game is captured? This could be problematic if captured ships can be stored away in that player's system so that they can never be attacked.
For humor's sake, I hope they continue to include Pacifist and Loser as inside jokes for other powers.
Agreed, the art detail really is excellent, and I'm happy that even though they changed the art direction from the original Eon, they still carried over the mushroom motif but in a more subtle way.
Your comment about Pacifist being a sucker for being dominated is something I hadn't noticed, but makes perfect sense ... In real life, pacifists do tend to underestimate the evil intent of those who would dominate. Because they generally have altruistic aims, then tend to project that onto others, adopting a "people are generally good" philosophy (in contrast to the evidence of history). This is nice and positive and all, but does tend to leave them more vulnerable to being used by the hyper-ambitious. Good catch.
This is such a quality power in every way.
I love the quality of art that goes into these powers, as an artist myself it's always good to see people keeping thematic stuff and whatnot on point. Notice the tendrils of the fungi in the arms of Pacifist, looking like bulging veins, and the one going up the side of his head.
Pacifist is a sucker for being dominated by parasitic life-forms, kinda sad.
Magician or Filth next?
Yeah Zach, I think you got it right. Even funnier than I thought!
Or maybe Fungus is forcing Pacifist to carry that gun? More brain slugs!
So if I understand this power, I could take my opponents ships and divide them into four stacks. My next encounter I could add each stack to the warp cone as per the rules (only up to four ships). So my base score is 4.
Now after reveal I can add each ship under the stack. So my score would now become 4+[# ships under each stack].
Poor Pacifist! He seems to be the favorite target of things that stick on your head; that's pretty funny.
Fungus seems to have revealed Pacifist's dirty little secret: he carries a gun.
Anyway, it's wonderful to finally get to see this card. Fungus is one of the most quintessentially Cosmic aliens, and will be a highlight of this expansion for me. Thanks again FFG for a job well done.
