“A dark shape, like a cloud and not yet a cloud, for it moved far more swiftly, came out of the blackness in the South, and sped toward the Company, blotting out all light as it approached. Soon it appeared as a great winged creature, blacker than the pits in the night. Fierce voices rose up to greet it from across the water.”
–J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

The Battle of Lake-town
Every vessel in the town was filled with water, every warrior was armed, every arrow and dart was ready, and the bridge to the land was thrown down and destroyed, before the roar of Smaug’s terrible approach grew loud, and the lake rippled red as fire beneath the awful beating of his wings.
–J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
To save Lake-town and its citizens, Middle-earth’s heroes must defeat the legendary dragon Smaug, but the odds are stacked heavily against them. The town is burning, Smaug’s fires leap from building to building, and as the dragon soars overheard ready to make his next attack, his hide of impenetrable scales protects him from nearly all attempts at retaliation!
Lake-town’s citizens depend upon your aid to survive an incendiary assault by one of Middle-earth’s greatest villains. Designed by Jonathan Benton and developed by the LCG team, The Battle of Lake-town gives players the chance to be heroes in the town’s greatest hour of need. Featuring an innovative “burn” mechanic, the scenario puts players on a timer to defeat Smaug before the town is reduced to cinders.
Meanwhile, The Battle of Lake-town offers a living portrait of a truly terrifying Smaug. The great wyrm is the scenario’s only enemy, but he can definitely make his presence felt by all players. A separate Smaug deck ensures that Smaug harries the heroes at every turn, while shadow effects allow him to make multiple attacks, and even engage new players. Each turn, while you try to defeat the dragon, douse the flames, and save the town, you’ll have plenty of interesting choices to make!
There’s no place to hide. No chance to flee. When Smaug attacks, your only recourse is to fight. Your only hope for survival is victory.
Ready your bows, and draw your arrows. Smaug is coming! Can you emerge victorious from The Battle of Lake-town?

What is Print on Demand?
Originally debuted with our announcement of expansions for Space Hulk – Death Angel: The Card Game, Print on Demand is an exciting new process that allows Fantasy Flight Games to produce professionally finished cards on a made-to-order basis, which opens up new opportunities for expanding existing games.
This process (not to be confused with Print and Play), results in smaller print runs of professionally manufactured products, allowing publishers to provide fans with content that would otherwise not be commercially viable. If you’re a retailer interested in carrying our Print on Demand products, visit our Professional Zone website to learn more.
Note: Due to variations in printing, cards from this Print on Demand scenario may differ subtly in appearance and texture from Core Set cards. For this reason, each The Lord of the Rings – Print on Demand scenario is wholly self-contained, including a complete encounter deck built from a single encounter set.
