I play 40K and Magic, and this game is a good deal for all the reasons that have been stated.

I got 6 of each ship (I have 10 Tiefighters) , and love the game!

I'm surprised that I have not seen on Ebay Rules, and nonship token (Movement, damage deck, Dice) up for sale from people buying more starter sets but selling the pieces you need to play. I have been thinking about that, but who knows if there is a market for people…

Red Six: I got a problem here. My converter's running wild.
Biggs: Eject!
Red Six: I can hold it. Gimme more room to run.
Biggs: You're too low. Pull up!
Red Six: No, I'm all right…

In fairness, I bought a second starter and half the decision was to get more tokens, markers, templates, and dice.  It's a PITA to keep passing that stuff across a 3x3 board.  Then again, in my case, I often have to have everything needed for two players as I tend to be the one buying stuff in my group.  I have plenty of people to play with, just not many that are willing to dedicate the money to things that I am, which is fine… I like having stuff. :)

So, how much would a premium rulebook be worth if it contained all the backstory and fluff that a typical tabletop rulebook has?

On-Topic: from the perspective of someone that primarily plays tabletop wargames (as opposed to board games), the value of X-Wing is great.  Not many tabletop games have 2 opposing forces ready to play straight from the box.  I just hope they have plans for some premium tokens, dials, and move templates because I'm not real crazy about cardboard pieces.

Sounds like you should do what we do on our Friday meets.  Just put in a £1 every week and when you have something you want to get, the kitty can buy it.  We bought 2 starter X-wing sets this way.

You can always make your own out of plasticard. Or have them made custom from someone like Litko. In fact I'd be surprised if they dont already have acrylic X-Wing markers in the pipeline already…

Had something a little more premium in mind.  Litko has already copied the dials and they're a poor imitation.  Look at the tokens Micro Art Studio makes for Infinity.  Full color artwork under clear acrylic.  I guess I could do a hi-res scan of the token sheet and laser cut my own, but I would much rather see FFG do that so all players have access to it.

Even though the OP has never returned to the thread and was probably just doing some light trolling anyway, I thought I'd re-post a thought I had over on the X-Wing thread at Warseer regarding price of this game in relation to value.

"I recently paid $20 for a Finecast, statically posed, Necron Overlord with an extra forearm to represent his wargear options. $15 for a booster and $40 for the starter doesn't seem like a bad deal at all to me."

The component quality is excellent and the models are well detailed, if not a bit fragile. I swap in cheaper micro machine or Star Wars Battle ships when my kids are playing and only break out the nice one's when there are just adults playing. I've bought one of everything and will defiantly get another starter.

You don't have to defiantly get another starter; it's perfectly alright with us.

Why… are these boards… so… slooooooow?

My first post on the FFG X-Wing boards.

I really enjoy playing X-Wing as a casual game with friends.  As of right now I will probably avoid the tournament scene as I am currently GMing a Star Wars EotE home campaign (creating missions takes up a lot of my free gaming time).   Anyway, I think X-Wing is a well designed game and a lot of fun to play.  The rules are much better than the Starship Battles game released several years ago by WotC.  Although there aren't many ships available right now, I think patience and anticipation are good for any game.  Did I mention how beautiful the sculpted miniatures look?  Unbelievable.

Right now I have about 5-6 local friends who are getting together a few times each month to play.  Also, its nice to see some of the old usernames from SWM here on the FFG X-Wing forums.  I just wanted to drop in and show my support for the game,  I really enjoy it.  Right now my collection stands at about 32 ships and counting (mostly TIE Fighters).

You stole the words right out of my mouth!  You really make me smile, I.J.Thompson.

Some people play to win. I play because it's one of the few ways to fly an X-wing here on Earth!

im not going to troll this game, As a matter of fact this Is a great game, Once me and my friend got a real good grasp on the rules we had the most fun on a table top game that we have had in a long time. It is awsome that the minatures are beautiful and are in scale with the other ships in the game. I cant wait to see what will come out later on for this game. Well done Fantasy Flight Games.

Not even adjusting for inflation, this mini game is straight cheaper dollar wise than what I spent on Battletech in 1988. Its a great deal for painted IMO.
