I can't wait for this.  I'm pumped that there will be a one player mechanic like LOTR.

So I went to my local game shop today (Game Daze) to talk them about FFG products and what they thought of them since I have no experience with this company. The man there said he loved FFG products and thought they were very well done and were affordable, when you consider what you get. His one gripe was that the products always seem delayed. He said it felt like they'd get an announcement from FFG that a certain product was being released, but his shop wouldn't be able to get it until a year after the release date. If this kind of release date push-back occurs with these Star Wars products, it may not even be till next summer or fall that we actually see the finished product. I only heard this opinion from one guy, so take it with a grain of salt. Let's hope they can work out the kinks of this game on schedule. If not, well, I prefer a finished product to a ???????? [cuutohampa na] early release item that has to be revised within a year.

Note to self: FFG forums do not support Japanese scripting.

FFG do have a slightly sliding scale for release of their news games. This one I expect around april next year. I'd love to have it for feb but I expect April.

Can I just say that it's great that this card game appears to be set primarily during the original trilogy timeframe?  :)

Oh yeah!

I have to say, I've spent about two weeks so far thinking about this game and its expandability based on just the OT, and I'm really a bit lost. I mean, I love the original three films (well, who doesn't?), but for a LCG to concentrate on just, what, 24 years of Star Wars history out of a timeline that spans about 5000 years so far, it seems a bit odd to me. So odd, in fact, that I emailed FFG the other day to put this point across (haven't yet received a reply of substance, however, though I wasn't really expecting anything back like that).

I suppose I'm just concerned because, if this is just a Rebels vs Imperials game, how many times are we going to go up against the Empire before we grow tired and think this LCG format isn't really right for this game? How long will it take before we want to go as Jedi against the Separatists, or the Sith, given how the new season of Clone Wars is currently airing, and The Old Republic is (meant to be) just around the corner? I'm just a bit concerned, I suppose, that it might grow old too soon.

For expansions, thinking along the LotR model, it would be good to have the base set scenarios to go against before the first cycle of Force Packs brings a set of linked scenarios to go up against as the card pool expands, but then what? I'd like to say I'd like to see the deluxe expansions come out with some Republic vs Separatists, or whatever, but then that pretty much kills the L part of the LCG, as you immediately have a new game that all those Rebel cards can't be used in. The only other option is to create a completely new encounter deck, with Jabba minions, or whatever, and have the rebels have some sort of objective to recover a weapons cache or something, before then the next Force Pack cycle involving more Rebel vs Empire shenanigans that you need those weapons from Jabba for. Maybe.

It does strike me as very odd though, how narrow the field is for this game. But then I didn't go to the demo at Gen Con, and I'm not a game designer, so what do I know?!

Umm, anyway, yeah... The game is at least six months over the horizon, and already I'm considering the future of it for a couple of years further again. Maybe I need to get out more...!

You know, Maedhros1977, I once thought as you do. I thought they'd just rip right through the Rebellion era material really fast, but someone countered me on that and I've changed my mind. Okay, at the very least, they may do 3 Force Pack cycles relating to each of the original movies and have 6 packs for each movie. That's already over a year of expansions, but I wouldn't be surprised if Hoth was it's own cycle, and Endor was it's own cycle, etc. That will prolong it even further. And then you know they just have to throw in the Zahn trilogy stuff because it's still Rebels vs. Empire, even if the Imperials aren't exactly looking for a Rebel base anymore. But it'll be so cool to see Thrawn and Paellon and the Chimera, and Talon Karrde and Mara Jade, etc. Don't forget the X-wing series too. True, most of the novels focus on New Republic vs. Remnant, but I think it'll still work out. Maybe they'll have an expansion that changes the focus from finding the Rebel base to something else, I don't know. But by then, we'll probably be ready for a small change, as you've pointed out. I concede that keeping it to the OT era is limiting when you consider the whole of Star Wars lore, but I think it will be plenty of fun this way.
