I'm actually pretty happy with the three factions we have now, and I prefer things to be "WW2 with a (small) twist" rather than gonzo sci-fi, so they can delay releasing the Vril forever, as far as I am concerned.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about that too.  The Vrill are obviously an important part of the game fluff, but I don't want it to get too sci-fi either.  Maybe we can delay the Vrill a while and pick up another real-world faction.

I'd like to see the Japanese show up and get some more French and Chinese troops. Maybe they could take these groups and do something similar to the sectorial armies in infinity. An SSU vs Axis core set with more Chinese troops and the Japanese would just be awesome!

Boom?

thats not the new rulebook, that's the initial rulebook.  Originally printed by AEG and had what their release schedule was going to be.  FFG acquired the distribution rights from AEG, and have since changed that whole release obviously, but that still stands that Vrill were always going to be in the picture from the beginning.

Well, we know for sure there will be a 4th army soon. I REALY hope it's gonna be the vrill, since I own axis and my best friend doesn't like the Allies/SSU. He is waiting for the vrill to jump into the game. I bet taht many ppl are. The vrill will be a HUGE commercial succes for FFG and Dust.

The Japanese could be used as a faction or just extra models for the Axis. They are the one nation that could stand toe to toe with any other nation. If they did do japanese models I am thinking some mutant/radioavtive infantry.

I think in the Dust timeline the first nuclear weapon (VK improved) was dropped on Sri Lanka (Ceylon or something at the time) and destroyed 90% of the country, so all 3 super-powers agreed to not use nuclear weapons again. So I doubt Japan got hit with a nuke.

On that note, the incident did make Japan strengthen their ties to Germany and become more officially part of Axis than it was historically, so I don't personally believe Japan will (or rather should) become a faction of their own.

I would like to see more Japanese units for Axis, British, French and Commonwealth units for Allied, and more Chinese units for SSU though (maybe enough to field purely-themed lists of British, French, Chinese, Japanese, or Commonwealth armies).

Back to the topic of the Vrill, I'd definitely like to see them make an appearance sometime soon. They were meant to originally be released only a few expansions in (if that plan was followed we'd have Vrill instead of SSU right now), and it'd make for a very unique force.

The thing I liked about the SSU (and the reason I want to play them the most when I have enough units) was how different they were from Axis and Allied when they first appeared. At the time, the Axis and Allied units were almost carbon-copies of each other, while the SSU completely messed with that before the 2 original factions started diverging (2 Snipers no Spotter for sniper team, anti-walker weapon with command squad, commissars, the first aircraft, air-lifted units, double machine gun / bazooka teams etc)

Now imagine how different Vrill will be. I liked someone's post before about Armour 1 or 2 vehicles with better movement, as there's so far been no Armour 1 or 2 vehicles but just about every other Armour type and value seen so far.

The problem is marketing and availability of manufacturing capability. We can have Vrill or Japanise or Brits or Aussis or Italians or Eskimos, but we aren't going to get them any faster than about one box per month. FFG/Dust Models did a good job IMO on the SSU, but at the price of sticking the Axis and Allies with dregs for a while. Of course, they needed to when they chose not to give up a starter set to let the SSU get a big lump up front. At the current pace of release, I've been perfectly comfortable with slowly collecting everything released and sometimes two of it, although I admit I haven't done much for a while now. (I put most of my buying on hold until I get around to fixing the "banana peel" models, those stupid poses are embarrassing to look at…on top of the SSU delays.) Suppose they suddenly dumped enough Vrill on the market to make a valid faction without spamming a bunch of units like the SSU had to for a long time until they got enough variety? Oops, some would buy a bunch, but it wouldn't sell as well. What I'm hoping for (as I did for the SSU), is for an "Operation" style update with a full Vrill force in the box. Pricey, yes, but I'd prefer to have a compact starter force rather than waiting like we had to for the SSU. Yes, I know there were playable SSU lists when the faction was just three squads, one hero and one walker, but a bit more variety would be nice. WTF? WHY ARE MY PARAGRAPHS BEING TAKEN OUT?!?!?!

Perhaps that American Corporation will be a seperate faction since they want the VK for themselves?

I have to say it is going to be Japanese. In the Sourcebooks they are in there own section, even though they are aligned with the Axis, they are their own force. If you look at Dust model stuff they have their own Decal Set, there is no Decal set for British, just Allies. In the Sourcebook They have many pics of different troops, walkers, and Heros. they will be their own faction.

No new factions in 2013. 2 new ones in 2014. As mentionned by Mr. Parente.
