for JGT7771: And don't forget this R'lyeh Other World Encounter card, in addition to the Messenger…
Can the R’lyeh encounter that begins with "Great Cthulhu spares the faithful" be discarded to prevent you from being devoured when you reach 0 monster trophies when Shub-Niggurath [AH] attacks during the Final Battle?
A: Yes.
Q: Can the R’lyeh encounter that begins with "Great Cthulhu spares the faithful" be discarded to prevent you from being devoured when you reach 0 gate trophies when Yog-Sothoth [AH] attacks during the Final Battle?
A: Yes.
Q: Can the R’lyeh encounter that begins with "Great Cthulhu spares the faithful" be discarded to prevent you from being devoured when you reach 0 Clue tokens when Nyarlathotep [AH] attacks during the Final Battle?
A: Yes.
as for me, I've always allowed the player a check and only then, if failed, does the 'fill-in the blank GOO' devour the Investigator.
for Julia: I'm sorry ~ it's the way I interpreted the FAQ, not a house rule…it seems that Charlie shouldn't have access to all 33 (I think) Allies. How do you see it, my friend?

Joe, I've always played this way: 11 allies enter the game, the other 22 (23 if you have Oliver Grayson) never enter play. Among those entering play, you can have some being returned to the box. Charlie can recruit those returned to the box, not the ones never entered play. So I think we play the same, don't we? It seemed to me that you were suggesting than when the terror reaches 3, Charlie gains a free Ally. Sorry if I misread your post!

Julia,
we're on the same "sanity-reducing" page ~ my example of the Terror Level at 3 was merely used to place some of the Allies in the box…it by nno means implied that ol' Charlie gets an Ally. We're absolutely playing the same way.
Cheers,
Joe

Q: Tulzscha (Herald) makes all Cultists Elusive, while Glaaki (Ancient One) [DH] makes all of his Cultists Undead Stalkers. Since Stalker and Elusive appear to be contradictory effects, what happens?
A: Stalker makes them move to the investigator; Elusive means that they avoid combat when they get there.
Like Geeks and Booth Babes at Comic-Con! "Stalker makes them move to the Booth Babe; Elusive means they avoid social contact when they get there."

I'm pretty upset that Warding of the Yellow Sign will send a surge monster drawn against it back to the Cup, but a (non-surge-Gate) surge monster drawn against Kate just lands at an "alternate terminal". Obviously they know the language to use to explain the Warding phenomenon; why they didn't opt to use that language for Kate kinda baffles me. I mean, did ANYONE ever consider this switching-terminals action? Was this ever ANYONE'S random interpretation? Where did they come up with that?! ![]()
I'm not sure I can abide by that. Kate gets dumped on enough without having to deal with "greased up" monsters.

Yay: If the Messenger can prevent being devoured by Nyarlathotep, Yog or Shub when you reach 0 Clues or Trophies, then the simple act of not having any more trophies does not qualify as a devourable offense. It ONLY happens when you have to pay and you can't.

Bloody FFG keeps stealing my avatars…
Wow, I return to the forums and I see this. About time!
I always feel like, somebody's watching me...
Good news.
On a different note, does anyone know where I can get the Oliver Grayson card? Do I have to buy a book or can I write in, and how effective is that?
cheers

The Ally was only available with the book. I think you can easily download it from the BGG (or just PM me your e-mail address so that I can send you, as you prefer), if you don't mind to print the card and play with home-printed material.
As for his effectiveness… well', he's a tough guy. Remember there are no specific encounters allowing you to gain that Ally, you can only recruit him at Ma's if he's one of the 11 Allies of your game. So… I - personally - sleep very well at night even without playing with him

Thanks once again, Julia - I have downloaded the PDF, but would like to throw him in as a random ally if possible. The slight OCD in me that FFG exploits with my permission:)
Is FFG still handing out copies after you mail in the request from Ghouls of the Miskatonic?
(and just so I'm still on topic - appreciate the new FAQs)

Not so sure if only a "first run" had the bonus card, if it's granted until they run out of cards, or if you're entitled to have it even if you pick up the book in the next century. IIRC, the book had a format you have to send over to FFG to have then the card shipped back.
Anyway, maybe you can have a quicker answer by posting your question in the books forum (here) or simply by e-mailing FFG customer service. They usually are very quick, very kind, and offer a really good service

And so the day has come at last! I've been away from the forums for a while, what with finals and holiday festivities. Little did I know that I was missing history in the making.
I'm mostly satisfied with the answers given, with a few exceptions. For one, I'm irritated by the lack of an answer regarding Falcon Point. I mean, was giving an extra encounter really the intent? Or has no one at FFG noticed that yet? In terms of answers actually given, I'm rather surprised by the ruling on the Dark Druid. Not only is it somewhat unintuitive, but it can lead to some nasty situations. (Imagine a Dark Young perpetually parked in the streets.) Although I'm troubled by the Find Gate/nightgaunt ruling (as detailed by others in another thread), the most frustrating for me is the ruling on the Acts. I mean…WHY? What is gained by having ancillary draws trigger them? Why would the creation of a Servant of Glaaki speed the play along? It just seems pointless, both thematically and mechanically.
What remains, it would seem, has no artistic significance.
