Hi Nemomon,
Interesting list you have there
I have still some doubts about the dungeon vs the Highlands
I feel that characters are falling behind if you go into the Highlands.
But the Highland feels more like a adventure than the dungeon.
If one player walk into the dungeon and the other into the Highland, i feel that the dungeon player will win the game if he is strong enough to survive there
How about Highland vs outer region?
Hello Velhart
You know this also depends of the game system. I can count on my 1 hand, max 2 hands, how many times I and my players were going to Inner Region to CoC space. We are playing friendly games for the sake of playing than winning, therefore Highland is better for us because it provides some adventure, while Dungeon is a rat race only.

As for Outer Region vs. Highland.
Let's say openly that while Highland cards are great, its board spaces are not. Mountain Pass is deadly. Since once I died there encountering low Craft enemy here, because I was forced to attack it because I was a Toad until the end of universe (I can tell You, Luck Fairy DEFINITELY is not luck
), now no one o my players is going there. Not to mention about Precipice that has a broken space text. But it also has a lot of draw cards spaces.
Outer Region has only Hidden Valley and Oasis. And Temple. Lost City was better IMO like it was in 3rd Ed. Probability that we will encounter Temple let's say once per 3 rounds are high. But while Oasis and Valley rather quickly may be full of useless cards, Highland have more spaces to draw 2 and 3 cards. And also Trinkets once again are great and much more helpful than a lot of Adventure Cards Objects.
Finally, if we are able to kill final Big Bird without any problems, we can claim all of his 4 Relics in 4 turns.
Therefore Highland are better than Outer Region.
EDIT: Crap <_< I don't know why I was thinking about Middle Region and discussing Outer Redion >_>
Check Talisman Island!
In my opinion the highlands is best; though the dungeon tends to speed the game up considerably as it is basically a short cut to the middle.

thanks for the reply.
It seems that it is still worth to go to the Highlands if characters are around strength 5 or 6.
So we can say, that the Highland is expanding the Outer region. If the outer region is full of cards, you can always go for the Highands.
Eagle King is only strength 8 cr8. so beating him is quicker than the dungeon lord, to get a chance on arnkell characters in the dungeon must reach strength 19/20 to get a chance to land on the crown. But dungeon has more enemies
I think that the player must decide which region he choose to win the game. You need also luck in the game off course
Love all the board expansions but in my opinion Sacred Pool is the best.. new cards great which stand alone but also open up to making older cards more interesting, add that twist..

I change my mind, and have added the dragon expansion to the list
Best single expansion at this moment:
1: Sacred Pool exp
2: Reaper exp
3: Highland Exp
4: Dragon Exp
4: Frostmarch exp
5: Dungeon exp
----------------
Sacred Pool has the best balance with cards, and has neutral and alternative ending card too
Reaper has lots of adventure cards and spell cards.
The Highland is a expanded outer region board where you can collect goodies.
The Dragon expansion has the dragon tower, but has also the dragon scale mechanic. You can better buy a region first.
The Frostmarch has some nice cards, but the balance is bad. weak enemies etc.
The Dungeon has too much enemies, and it's become a boring place. You can only fight there instead of a real adventure.
I'm glad this thread is here.
For instance, I've been unconsciously dreading buying the Highlands expansion, because I had gotten the impression somewhere that it is 'too easy' or 'lame'. It was surprising to see it so highly regarded here, and I'm pleased to be able to learn from all of your opinions (I've only been playing since Xmas).
Based on my limited knowledge, here's my list so far:
I'm probably gonna buy the rest in order, but it's nice to see that I don't have to dread getting the Highlands!
Why… are these boards… so… slooooooow?
Hi Everyone,
I'm thinking about buying an expansion for my basic Talisman, and that is why I'm curious about your opinion. May be the Highland could be a great beginner'a choice because of its emphasis on the adventure side of the game. Earlier I was thinking about the Dungeon, but now in my opinion it will be only the next choice in the future. And what do you think about the Dragon expansion? Does it alter the gameplay much?
Mostly I play the game with my beloved, so there are only two players. Once in a blue moon there is a third player. So I would like to find an expansion which enriches the game much for only two players.
Thank you for your help!

I'd stick with a small box expansion first of all, like the Sacred Pool or Reaper!

Mephisto Character Cards (English Revised Edition)
Hello to all,
I only play a two player game and we both feel differently about our favorite expansion - we do have them all and use them all, mostly (haven't used the Dragon Tower board yet).
I tend to see it as two divisions; small expansion vs board expansion. I also liked Sacred expansion. I liked the comment about how the new cards can alter/slightly twist some of the older cards. Yep! I'm a continuity freak, so when I've babbled about new expansions, I like to see things that tie into pre-existing things. Doesn't always work that way, I understand.
My wife, player # 2, loves loves Sacred - she is a sucker for those fountains and streams that build up your vitals!
For the big board I like Dungeon most. But its very deadly and I usually don't survive well. It is very easy to die early in a two player game, or at least ours. I know my wife likes Highlands better, bright shiny trinkets everywhere, ooh, bright and shiny.
Frostmarch is least favorite, its not a dog - most of the adventure cards are fine and blend well with the others. They resonate to Highland too, obviously.
I like Dragon a lot, almost more than Dungeon, my wife is very tepid. She will always encounter a regular space and/or cards from any deck other than Dragon decks. Seems to have an aversion.
We actually don't hate any of the sets, but are not incredibly awed of any in particular, just generally favor as we do. Now I am rather excited for Blood Moon, but I am a sucker for the undead and werewolves.

I would buy Sacred Pool or Reaper first, to increase your standard adventure deck!
I would not recommend getting Sacred Pool as your only expansion. I think it was designed to work with other expansions.
noob
Talisman Ben is right.
Sacred Pool has quest reward cards, so you can better get some warlock quest cards first.
I also recommend to buy the reaper first, or buy both expansions, to increase your adventure and spell deck.

I thank all of you for your help! I think first I'll go for the Reaper, and later Sacred Pool. And then sometime Higland or Dungeon.
