I don't know about the discount.
As far as the game goes, the base one is already a lot of fun to play. However, if you intend to play it often enough, the expansion will be a must buy, for it increases the replayability to an enormous amount.
I agree. I love the original, but I love the original + expansion so much more.

For anyone perusing the forums wandering about this, the expansion is now in stock so it was just temporarily out of print.

I have the base game, and the expansion, but I really need to play with the expansion more, it really adds to the game, as not everyone has the same buildings they can work with.
