My first set of D&D dice in the mid-80’s cost $12 dollars. And that was for 7 dice, all one color with no special characters on them. Believe me, this is cheap for a set of custom dice!

No. They are expensive. The cost for producing these dices is a lot less now than it was in the mid-80's.

Based on what? The cost of the various base chemicals in the plastic have been going up and up because of demands and reduced supply.
Plus 30 years of inflation would mean that dice that were $15 in the 80s would be over $60 today. So the fact that these are $15 means that they are, relatively, cheaper than dice from times past.
I'm looking forward to the Core Rulebook being released.
At first I wasn't too sure about the dice mechanic, but after getting to play through a little of the Beginner Game, I like it.
I don't mind paying about $1 per die for quality custom dice (By comparison, if you go to the Chessex site, it's about $0.55 per die for standard dice, so it isn't unreasonable).
My only problem is that I'd like the fine folks at FFG to release a Complete Dice Set that has the maximum amount of each type of die that could possibly be rolled at once (when we were trying out the Beginner Game, there were instances where we had to re-roll an Ability Die because there was only three and we needed four).
It should be relatively easy for them to figure out how many of each are needed.
Otherwise, if they don't want to release a Complete Dice Set, I hope they decide to give an a la carte option where we can buy "X" of each die individually.
Just my 2 credits worth.
The GM Kit screen. What to expect? Will it be hardcover material like many recently, or flimsy cardboard like the WoTC 3e screens? For those who have more experience with FFG RPG stuff…

The screens for the 40k RPGs are "hardcover", so I'd expect the same.

It's a great time right now to commend FFG for their online freeware products.
Quite honestly, we were all spoiled by Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars site on wizards.com with all of the free online supplements they produced. This was something I greatly appreciated and come to expect. This stuff really works -- it drives interest and keeps people excited about the game in between releases.
We're barely out of the gate and with the beginner game, we already have an adventure and additional character folios.
Keep this up and they'll have a successful game for many, many years to come!

Thanks, gribble. That is what I expected, so I'll probably not be surprised.
