Also with the upgrade cards that come with the falcon the game will be changed. TIEs with shields, 11 Pilot skills, Assault Missiles.  Curses fantasy flight you are going to get me to by three falcons!!!!!

so I used the Falcon last night for the first time. I took it against five academy pilots and wing gundark. 75pts. I had seventy in the Falcon. Yes I used Han, Luke, Chewi, an assault missile, elusiveness (great card), the title card for the falcon, and a shield upgrade.  Wow this was a hard fight!  Erin came at me with the six ties set up in a "V" shape.  Han with a pilot skill of 9 moved last and the empire ships flew towards the falcon center ships five forward and ships on the edge three easy turn. They all took a focus.  I flew Han straight three and took a targeting lock on the academy pilot that flew five towards me.  In the combat phase I opened by shooting my Assault Missile.  I managed two hits on the academy pilot so then all TIEs within range on of him took 1 damage.  There were three TIEs with in this range so they all took damage.  Four ties shot back and I lost three shields. After that Erin kept putting TIEs in the way of the Falcon so that it was always overlapping and not taking actions. This would lead to my down fall as the Falcon only has one evade and the title card for the falcon allows for it to take and evade token as an action.  Han and Luke allow for rerolls and bonuses in the combat phase so there is no point in taking a focus action.  Elusiveness allows you to take a stress token to avoid a hit. Awesome card. I was able to drop one TIE a round but eventually with out being able to take actions and not avoid damage I was overwhelmed.

Pros:  1.) The falcon is fun to play. You are always shooting.

Cons: 2.) the big base is hard to maneuver and easy for the empire to take advantage of.

Thanks for the preview.  March seems so far away.  Let me know if you get bored with that and want to unload it. ;)

I think I'm going to keep mine. The Kessel run is coming up and I plan on rounding out my set.  I do enjoy using the model too much.

So my question is for the Kessel run what lists do you think you will see at the event?

ryan

I recently played in another AFM VASSAL tournament with six TIE fighters (the All Star team, in fact) and the only time I lost was against an opposing Imperial team of 6 TIE fighters. The other two games I played were against 3-Y-wing teams. It's looking to me like Empire is just a bit risky. The 2 attack dice is hard to work with, but I suppose I'll get better with practice. I really feel that the TIE interceptor is going to be a boon for the Empire.

I agree that X-wings are the most balanced fighters so far, so I won't be surprised if we see lots of them in the tournament. Truth be told, I had to borrow some TIEs in order to field 6 of them. I'll be fielding Rebels just because I don't have enough Imperial craft…yet.

Some people play to win. I play because it's one of the few ways to fly an X-wing here on Earth!

actually Im thinking that a 5 ship team with 1 or 2 TIEadv with missiles could work too, provided you get a bit more lucky with the missiles

Make your own luck with the missiles. Find ways to get a target lock and a focus in the round you shoot it.

i don't think the Rees have the advantage anymore. It is balanced.

The problem in tournies is the imperial on imperial crime. It is brutal.

This is why I'm thinking two missile lists are the way to go.

I was reading another thread that talked about how horrible Maarek Stele is. Would you take him as your second TIE advanced, or would you settle for a Stom/Tempest pilot? I have NEVER seen Maarek Stele's ability come in handy, but he's just such a cool character that  it's hard to say "no" to him.

The only time I would consider using him would be with Marksmanship and Cluster Missiles.  Even then, not a huge chance for his ability to come into play, but at least a decent chance.  Other than that, I would think that the extra points would just be a waste.

I agree. I think he is lost points. The generic tie pilots save you points that can be spent else where on things like swarm tactics or upgrading from an academy pilot to an obsidian pilot.
