Seriously? Fifth installment of the same game system as a "fully compatible" yet "stand alone". Again.
WFRP stuff
I like Imperial Guard. Too bad no one around me knows egnlish well enough to play this with me. And only few have enough enthusiasm and interest, so whatever...

Agreed. Enough already.
Quality - not quantity.

Problem is 40k doesn't really handle the "wandering band of adventurers from all walks of life" trope that well. In any reasonable "party" that exists in 40k (that is to say, something that works in a tabletop RPG fashion, nor a complete hand-waving/mary-sueing of a party made up of a Tau air caste member, a genestealer, and a commissar meeting in a tavern...), individuals usually have a shared purpose. This does lend itself pretty well to the separate but compatible supplements we see.
Only problem I see is some thematic overlap with Deathwatch (heavy combat). I imagine we'll just see less of the warrior fraternity, more of the band of brothers sort of feel.
Wonder how politics/intrigue is handled (if at all). Also, given the nigh ridiculous system of punishment (dropping your toothbrush = you getting shot), it'll be interesting to see how they handle the fact that this is a world that needs to function.
I mean, yeah... I'll be in line Thursday Morning at Gen Con for this. I don't even doubt it. Just like the last 3 games - bounce in, get something else I want from a nearby booth to have reading material as I wait, and then in line for this Thursday morning. Hell, I'm even excited, cool concept and such.
But wow, a new line? Again? And "fully compatible" my butt. None of these gamelines is fully compatible with the others, they share a core mechanic and that's about it, any compatibility takes a decent amount of work.
I just hope (and am guessing it is likely) that it uses an advancement system more akin to Black Crusade than the very Splat focused previous games. If so, this will easily be the best version yet. And it'll probably be a more advanced way of handling things yet. Since so far each new game has improved upon the basic system using the lessons learned.
The previews in the months to come should be interesting.

I will be getting this. I'm curious as to what the power level will be; Dark Heresy? Rogue Trader? In-between? Honesly though, what I REALLY want are abhumans. I'd be especially pleased if they profiled the ones from White Dwarf (Afrelis, twists, nightsiders, etc.). Reasonably though, I'd expect ogryns & ratlings in the core book, if anything. Perhaps in a supplement...
Chaos is the essence of the universe.
Yay! It finally got announced. It’s been a long and painful road having to pretend this game didn’t exist...

There are no female Space Marines. Don't believe me?
Gender & Appearance
Due to the special nature of the zygotes that make up a Space Marine's geneseed, all Space Marines are male. - Deathwatch, Core Rulebook, Page 28.
So enough with the Female Marine threads…

Amen to that. The number of times I've had to catch myself before I let slip something about it to friends... these months have sorely tested my willpower.

I am surprised that a 5th game is coming out. It is starting to feel like White Wolf where you can pretty much skip several dozen pages of rules that you have seen before (though, WW did a great thing in having one rule book in the second iteration of the WOD). I thought only war was going to be a suppliment like Blood of Martyrs or Radical's handbook, but I guess that this will add a few hundred pages into the mix.
I am still wondering why they needed a new game for soldiers. I figured that soldiers are pretty generic and can be fit into any of the existing settings (especially Deathwatch), so why did they need a whole new game system to cover that? I can only guess that they will have some new rules for mass combat so that GM's can tell massive stories of the war and resolve mass combats quickly. I do feel that soldiers in warhammer 40K are generic since Imperial guard are like the faceless masses of infantry that die on battlefields, maybe this going to add some colour to them.
I will still help out the economy and buy it as I am very curious about how they will pull this off. I will also buy every other Warhammer 40K that they release every other year.
One question, Warhammer 40K has 5 games out, and Warhammer fantasy has 1, how did 40K get so much more attention?

While I haven't read anything from WW other than the quickstart rules for Vampire the Requiem I certainly hope that FFG will use a similar approach when handling the second iteration of 40k RPGs. Without knowing the story behind WWs publishings it seem like there are some similiarities when it comes to printing core rulebooks.

I think it's simply because 40k is simply more popular in general. Another reason may be that there's not that many different types of humans in Wh fantasy compared to 40k but I know too little about the fantasy setting to really judge that one.

Sales and arguably enough different genres/themes to support expanding the game line. That's my theory anyway, I doubt we'll get an official answer.

As the OP I must confess that I too have been silent months about this. I really just wanted an excuse to have the first post. :P
That said, IMHO this game will be better than both Deathwatch and Black Crusade. The "human element" alone should offer far more RP potential, and give a nice solid military game that feels proper.

One other thing, what will the new location be? I think that they have already covered most of the aliens in the other settings so I cannot think of any surprises
