A Journey to Rhosgobel (Solo Player Living Tournament)
Published on 23 February 2012 - 22:03:14

This tournament is part of the Living Tournament system. You are welcome to read this, play the scenario, and post your results (in that order). Place well enough, and you may just end up with a Living Tournament World Ranking!

Scenario: A Journey to Rhosgobel
Deck Parameters: Open Build*
Number of Players: Solo Player

Tournament Parameters:

1) This is a Living Tournament. You may play and post results at your own pace.
2) *Open Build means you may use any legal LOTR LCG cards at your availability.
3) A valid result in this tournament consists of reporting your results (wins and losses) from 3 back-to-back games (may be spread out over as much time as you like), using the same deck for each of those 3 games. (Please observe the mulligan rule, and all other rules, from the LOTR LCG rulebook and subsequent official FAQ documents.)
4) After you post your results, the results from your 3 games will be calibrated using the RGun formula** to obtain your Weighted Result.
5) Weighted Results will then be ranked against other player’s Weighted Results, and the rankings will be updated over time as new results are posted to the thread.
6) You may play this tournament as many times as you would like (so you can try out different deck builds over time), but you can only hold one spot in the overall tournament rankings at a time (i.e. this gives you a chance to try and best your own result while only occupying one spot in the rankings).
7) Do not cheat. Just don’t. It destroys the fun and integrity of the tournament system. If you realize you have made a mistake at a later date that had serious implications for a result you had posted in the past, please make a new post in this thread drawing attention to that fact – that past result will be invalidated, and of course, you are welcome (and highly encouraged) to try again.

**The RGun formula has been designed to value both Final Score (per game) and overall Win Ratio (from your 3 games, cumulative). The formula is: (Average Score of Games Won) x (Total Games Played/Games Won). For an expanded discussion on how this formula was created, you can read the thread called Measuring Success.

Ouch; after 6 plays I finally build a deck who can beat it; I think there is some lucky involved, but I only draw a Lore of Imladris and get an Athelas. Eleanor has canceled 2 wounds on the eagle, what can save it. It was close, as I only managed to have the eagle with exactly no wounds. If on the last quest it was injured, I will be finished. Anyway Eowyn needed to discard a total of 3 cards to complete the quest.

Same again. To be honest, this is very hard as we depends on Athelas pupping out the encounter deck. Man, a hard time, but puts me on second place.

Wow, that was superb. The first game had 2 Lores which healed Wyliador. Ther first was drawn due to Gandalf in round 2, the second was drawn in round 4. Lucky

Game two had 2 Athelas one drawn with the location and one just came up. My starting hand had one lore in it. Wilyiador had 15 wounds......puhhh.

The last Gane was with a perfect starting hand. PoL and 2 Lores.

I mulliganed twice in my three games. Gandalf saw the table three times in total. Everytime to draw cards.

I played the game with a rabbit deck. In game 1 I had to sacrifice Glorfindel as I had only one Lore of Imladrisand six samage tokens on Wilyador. Game 2 was almost perfect, with Protector of Lórien, 1x Lore of Imladris and Escort from Edoras in my hand. Encounters were Caught in a Web (played on Bilbo) and Mirkwood Mountains. In game 3 I had 2x lore of Imladris, 2x Test of Will and Protector of Lórien. First round encounter was Dol Guldur Beastmatser, second round  encounter was Enchanted STream. At that point I decided to engage the Beastmaster, who dealt 2 damage to Wilyador with Festering WOunds as shadow effect. Glorifindel took the 3 damage from the attack, then I played Shadow of the Past to put Festering Wounds back on the top of the ecnounter deck and cancelled its effect in round three with Test of Will.

Took me only 30 games to get there…

Ah those were the days, remember when we had such decks in the first tournaments.

Just found the entry I made on commenting which cards were used: 1 core set and all 3APs…..haha

So then the game is on……man so many great results to beat.

2 core sets including  watcher in the water.  I had resourceful attachment  in there  but never saw it.

Games 1 and 2 were incredibly fast.
I was stunned when I finished game 2 on the second quest phase.   I had lore of  Imladris, protector of lorein, escort of erodas in my opening hand.
I quested with my three heroes and the eagle in round 1, I got a treachery card. I discarded one card for eowyn's ability  and had the 8 progress tokens to take out the quest card.  Moved roshgobel to the active location.  During the resource phase of the 2nd round I moved one progress token to Bifur.  He healed the eagle with Imladris and attached protector of Lorien with his three tokens. Eowyn brought in the escort.  I quested with every one.  Pulled a one threat bat card plus four in the active location.  I discard the 5 cards in my hand into the protector of lorien attachment, and had a grand total of 17 willpower which gave me 12 progress tokens in the end, and that was it.

Final weighted score: 71*3/2 = 106,5

In the first game I was off to a rough start with Ungoliant's Spawn as the very first card to come up, followed by Hummerhorns. In the second round I tried to use Henamarth as a chump blocker against the Spawn but the shadow effect of Exhaustion (1 damage to each exhausted character) made the attack undefended, killing Aragorn. After that I was barely able to make any progress, and Wilyador eventually died from his wounds.

The two following games were both extremely smooth. I took some stray damage from treacheries, but Beravor and Gleowine provided so much card draw that I soon had all the healing needed for two quick wins (also found at least 1 Athelas in both games).

The strategy is quite simple: it's an all out gamble right from the start.

You must keep any hand with a Lore of Imladris. Quest with all characters on turn 1. With some luck, it's enough to clear stage 1B. Second turn can be used to clear Rhosgopel and, hopefully, on turn 3 the game ends. Additional healing from Glorfindel or Radagast can supplement the Lore of Imladris.

If the game isn't over then, chances are you just won't win. At this point, start using Wilyador's ability to try and obtain some Athelas.

I still believe this is more of a gamble than a fun game… probably won't retry it until some major change happens to the player card pool (including additional healing).

Man that was great. Inspired by leptokurts try I made my deck I used for ther first JtR tournament, plus some new cards.

First game was super.Encounter was Caught in a web. Not that great but also not that bad. Had lore in hand and also a sneak Gandalf and Pol. Elronds Council helped too.

Game 2 was a pitty because I had to use Glorfidel….shame. First Encounter was Caught in a Web again. Second was Exhaustion, but I already expected that I won´t make it through stage 2 in one go so didn´t commit the eagle. So just Eowyn and Glorfindel took some damage and I got 4 progres on the quest. In round 3 I played a Gandalf, healed Wilyador with lore and Gloffindel and even had resources to ready Theodred for the questing.

Ufthak showd up and it was won.

Game 3 went unusal as I got Mountains of Mirkwood as first encounter. Thanks to EC I mad it through the stage. So now I have to make it in one go through 2B. Hm that could be a problem. Had a Pol but that won´t be enough……Encounter was Athelas attache to it was Exhaustion. Never was I so happy to see that card.Could claim it in the next round and seal the deal. Last encounter was a spider.
