I odnt know why we are even griping about anything. We have seen one page. One lousy page. For all we know you are allowed to build a force without taking a platoon formation, but in doing so you dont get the special tactic or even price breaks (maybe each build-platoon style will have different costs for differennt units?).

Emperor, let Your undeniable light burn on the mishappen and twisted, so I can see them with pure sight, and purge them with righteous fire!

No griping here - I'm more excited about this game than ever now that I've seen some actual details about it come out.

I am hoping there will be a list for an armored Platoon. Which would equate to character walkers or not yet seen Hero Pilots.

yes! they really need to have armoured platoons also. this first platoon example is very infantry oriented as its probably meant to be the basic  combat unit.  I would like to see a platoon of pounders or ludwigs too though, maybe they can get support infantry like panzergrenadiers.

I too am not sure about the platoon either having to have a command squad or hero. I have only one command squad and some of the heroes are abit silly.

I really like the off board. artillery option. i really kind of think thats how they should have handled aircraft too at a game this scale.

Yea, heavy artillery should never be on-board unless you are attacking their position.

I agree fixed wing doesn't need to be zipping around, they should only be near the battlefield for an exceedingly short period, but I can live with rotary type vehicles.

So this preview has me wondering which heroes have the "Leader" skill.  Clearly Johnny One-Eye does, but I'm guessing we can be confident that Lara, Rhino, Sigrid, and Bazooka Joe do as well - i.e., it looks like it is set up that someone can just buy one of the core sets as well as the rulebook, and then they have everything (other than terrain) they need to play the game.

I'm not sure what other heroes are likely to have the leader ability though - thoughts?

On the Combat Platoon sheet, the very last unit choice on Section 2 lists a Heavy Rangers Assault Squad.

After looking over all the products in the allies section, I can't seem to find this unit.  I've found all the other Heavy squads, but this one is eluding me.  Has this particular unit been released yet or is going to be in the future.  Or is this a potential misprint on FFG's part?

My guess is they are covering their bases for future squad expansions.

Never mind - the Hammers are a Heavy Assault Squad.

From the preview:  "This game features a dynamic army building system that uses platoons, small and flexible groups of units and support vehicles that can be customized to complete any mission."

I think that makes it pretty clear that there won't be mechanized platoons - vehicles are used for support.

Doesn't bother me any (I don't have a huge mass of walkers anyway) but I think that strongly implies that all-vehicle platoons won't be included (at least not in the core rulebook.)

I actually dont get the example on the review page discribing the Plattoon set up.

E.g does the PDF sheet state: one special unit per two section. Why have they then 3 specials in their first combat platoon example?

Can please someone explain in her/ his own words how the platoons are going to work.

From the preview:

"Selecting a command unit like The Boss gives the platoon a Medic, Mechanic, and Radioman, along with abilities like Additional Support, which allows the platoon to select an additional Support unit (snipers or spotters only)"

Platoons are groupings of units.  So in this case, the player has 300 points to create an army, and decides to do so using 3 platoons, a combat platoon and an assault platoon.  Each platoon can contain up to a certain number of sections (each section equals one unit) plus support units, and each section has their own list of available units that can be put in that section.

Each Platoon must have one hero with Leader ability, or one command squad.  Each platoon must also have the first section, which is one regular unit.

From what I can tell, you can have as many or few platoons as you want, as long as you're within your point values and you follow the rules for each platoon.

Each platoon also has its own special ability, so choosing what platoons you use has more effect than just what units you have.

That's about everything I can get out of the preview - hope that helps.

Whoops - had a typo.  Where I said "3 platoons" I meant "2 platoons".

I'm also hoping for walker platoons, as it makes porting Tactics scenarios to Warfare more possible while maintaining whatever limits Warfare gives us.

It also allows players to have far more options for the kinds of scenarios they play.

I know Warfare will be a different game, but it would be nice to be able to use Tactics scenarios without having to create lots of house rules to use them.

I prefer the idea of big gun artillery being off board except for special scenarios, as that's the roll of big gun artillery.  I just don't want it to be something that has to be there, as that limits scenarios.

It forces players to either give up something they're paying for through the cost of other units if they play a scenario without the support, or adds artillery support where it wouldn't logically be available.  Paying for support as a separate entity would be a far better option than including in in the cost of other units as always available, whether only for specific platoons, or not.

Everybody used big gun artillery in WW2, so if it's going to be available, it should be available in a way that works without limiting either side.
