Creating a map
Published on 17 August 2012 - 10:28:38

I bought many terrain accessories like ruin walls, impassable terrain (Dust Game), sand backs, big rocks and 4 stories ruined tower (Battlefield in a Box) and soon to add the Victory Square statue.

From now on I want to create random maps for our games and would like to get some tips on how to create a "balanced" map.

We'll be playing on a 3x4 tiles.  So, can I simply place the 12 tiles right away and each turn, each player add a scenery element on the map where he wants?

Should I control a bit more how we're creating the maps?

You can certainly alternate, and that will create a pretty balanced map, although sometimes it can look a bit too random if you're trying to go for a nice aesthetic.

My preference is to just have one person make the map and the other person gets to choose what side they deploy on.  This ensures balance, and if there's an imbalance, well then, either the person who created the map will get penalized for not making a good map, or the other player will get penalized for not choosing the best side, which is fine.

Good idea, very much like it!

Other thing I was thinking is creating objectives for the game like rescuing prisoners or getting enemy maps in their stronghold…but that's for another time.

Thanks felkor!
