Malal - the Renegade God
Published on 25 February 2011 - 20:47:39

Hey all,

I've been in the Warhammer 40k scene for some time and I would love to see a mention/talent(s) for/or even a write up about Malal.  I know my gaming table would love to see something about him. He's a great foil for Chaos besides the other denizens of the universe, mostly because he is hated by both sides - Chaos and the Pure Imperium. His space marines would be great. They, like their god, are parasitic in nature if I'm not mistaken and would have some of the coolest Psyker abilities to draw the enemies strength from them and use it against them. I doubt that FFG has the kind of clout needed to bring something like this to the table but it would be such so awesome if they could.

Especially with Black Crusade, it is finally possible to run an 'evil' campaign. So, if Malal was added to the mix with a later splat book or so you can definitely allow a player to be an enemy of his own kind while sapping their strength and further corrupting their plans for the benefit of his own dark god. I mean, the Chaos gods already kind of work against each other anyway; Korne hates Tzeentch, Tzeentch hates Nurgle and no one really cares for Slaanesh. Yet, imagine having a god that all the other gods despise and will work together to take out along with their plans to bring about the ruination of the Imperium.

I'm asking the people at FFG to take this idea and run with it. You guys have a better track record of keeping things in line (game mechanics, fluff, etc.) and keeping the story straight, so PLEASE take this concept and use it as an enemy of Chaos...oh and please make a reference to Chaos-chan from /TG/, even if it is just a pic.

If you agree with me, please bump this.

I think Malal has been pretty much been written out of the setting by GW...

Correct.  GW lost the rights to using Malal when one of the developers left the company.  I think that's why they created Zuvassin and Necoho in the Enemy Within campaign.  A shame, because I like Malal.

Futility

Move him into the sun
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields unsown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morningthis snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Indeedy. Malal isn't just dead and gone; he never existed at all. That said, GW do occasionally make a cheeky, very subtle reference. I think the last ones were the Sons of Malice, a renegade Chapter in black and white armour, who ran around stomping other chaos followers.

But yeah, Malal's whole chaos-eating-itself schtick has pretty much been rewritten into Radical factions of the Imperium. Not much hope there. And for the love of all that's unholy, no chan-anything. Might as well reference My Little Pony...

And if I remember correctly, Sons of Malice were Sons of Malal before the GW employee who created Malal left the company.

It is a shame that Malal has been left in the past.

You can read more about Malal and his history within GW here.

What the (beep) is Chaos-chan?

Hey all,

I pretty much knew this was a lost cause from the start, I just wanted to see if I could get FFG to at least make a reference to something like it. You can't blame an old guy for trying to bring something back that was plain awesome. Thank you Wilfred Owen for the reminding of GW's loss of rights, I had completely forgotten about that. I thought they had just decided that he was a stupid god and they didn't want to use him anymore.

Chaos-chan: A human woman who worships all the Chaos gods, wears pretty much the standard Conan the Barbarian woman's armor (bikini top and khaki shorts) and has a severe lisp because she filed her teeth down to points. She's pretty much there to make Chaos hilarious and sexy. To be honest, if you don't know than you're better off for it.

What ever GW or FFG ever do with the Warhammer universe and it's different settings they can never take Malal or Kaleb Daark away from me. Sure looking forward to Black Crusade it is going to be a awesome read.

UFS - Universal Fighting System the game with the greatest potential, too bad that not many people got it.

This is where I draw the line__________________________

I just had a funny thought.

Playing a follower of Malal in a group of 'loyal' followers of the chaos gods, would be akin to playing a follower of the Dark Gods in a group with servants of the Inquisition (or whatever).

You don't remember correctly. Malal, if remember correctly, was never directly mentioned in any 40k lore.

Also, I'm pretty sure Grant and Wagner were not actually employees of GW; they were comic book freelancers.

One thing to remember is that it's possible to work as part of the ruinous powers, but not directly work towards their end goals. Basically you take the Radical Inquisitor and marine ideas to the extreme, or just play a renegade who knows the imperium is wrong. Or, you just play someone who's out for number one and if that means helping a daemon reap some souls now and then, well so be it.

Other examples would be renegade or exiled marines, (Soul drinkers, the marines from the third Ultramarines book possibly some of the Alpha legion, etc. Another possibility is non imperial humans who want to remain independent or side with non humans.  Tau influenced humans, and 'rediscovered' colonies.
