rich, great as always. You are entering a line that I don't know at all, and as I said in other chapters, I'm begining to gain interest in it. You have made me start the Silmarillion again, and about the HoME volumes, I think I'm going to look for them in ebay or something... I need them... my preciousss
And about preferences, Dwarves were always my favorites, along with Dúnedain... and I have less interest in elves.
Keep going pal. Great work

Fantastic work, as ever!
My Return of the Shadow arrived today, so I leapt straight into the Mines of Moria chapter (because I can take or leave Hobbits, but I do love a good Dwarf), and they are pretty awesome books, these histories! Something that really impresses me is the way that the storyline is so clear from even the very first drafts, sometimes even down to really small details. Tolkien clearly knew what he wanted to do from the start, no matter how much he might have protested about certain elements! What a guy.
Without Signature
indeed- thats a good point- its fascinating how he could changed entire meaning of passages (eg the appearance of the rider) however still use it in the final draft

These are so good, richsabre. Thanks again. I hope you haven''t stopped doing them, as I saw some comments in chapter 5 and now its been almost a month without a new one.
This was the only one I had missed reading, as it showed up on a day I was really busy with work. But I finally read through it and liked this "could''ve beens" just as much as your other ones.
The Tolkienologies are one of the best things on these FFG LotRLCG forums.
Very interesting indeed Rich; thanks for writing this up. :)
"In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit..."
thanks for your comments :D

thanks

Very good to see that you're still standing strong, Rich.
Answer me this, please. I would like to know how Necromancy and 'Undeath' works in Tolkien's world.
I have an AP almost done (just need to work on the names) that is based on Undeads and the Dark Arts of Necromancy.
Thanks. :)

an interesting question, well lets look at what tolkien creates in the 'undead' section: (lets stick to the 3rd age for simplicity's sake)
-the army of the dead- dunharrow - reason = cursed men
-barrow wights - reason = sorcery of witch knig
-ringwraiths (this is up for debate as they are in an inbetween state- however given the knowledge that nazgul were at first going to be mounted barrow wights (a discarded idea) then we could argue that nazgul are a form of undead) reason = power of the rings
-sauron is known as the necromancer- we need to be careful about this one- i may be wrong here- but there is no evidence of sauron actually raising the dead other than the wights through the witch kings power
so to conclude- the undead doesnt play a huge part in tolkien mythology as compared to other fantasy worlds- warhammer for instance, which does the whole skeleton/vampire/zombie army thing
however there is cases as above, though as you can see they are mostly related to saurons magic (and the witch king through sauron)
if you are going to create an AP based on undead, then i dont see any real themeatic problems, perhaps as long as they relate back to sauron in some way
