Question… is there anything like a "master apothecary" on the books? i mean… an advanced class for the apothecary… is there any?

Only the Sanguinary Priest for Blood Angels. You could also go with some of the generic advanced specialties in RoB. Keeper, First Company Veteran or Champion would fit with what the Apothecary is already good at.

Also, would using Point Buy be alright? I prefer that over rolling dice.

Likewise. I just managed to roll 11 nine times in a row ;;>_>

Also, it dawns on me that we should probably let each other know what we're writing up so that we don't end up with a team of Devastators or some-such (that amount of dakka is reserved for the Orks). I'm writing up a Space Wolf Tactical Marine with the hopes of moving him towards Wolf Priest at Rank 4, but whether I lean more towards his Command or Lores is up in the air for now. If someone else is gearing up to lead, I'm happy playing advisor.

I've written a Carcharodons Assault Marine. I was planning on building towards a Chaplain, but I could easily with something else, considering we reach that point.

cccc watch out we got some min maxers on-board  I prefer the rolls myself, it gives that unequivocal feel that you are what the God Emperor in his infinite wisdom chose for you to be. Then again, I understand that you would've never become a member of the Deathwatch Kill-team if you weren't a cut above the "average" Adeptus Astartes. So I guess it's up to the GM to rule this one out.

Any tips for a friendly user forum so we can run our game?

This will be my first grand campaing.. so… be nice to me… :) I really want to learn how to GM properly :)

Any ideas before we begin? I really would like to hear from you what do you expect… :)

Sorry mate I am an inexperienced GM myself. Just started running my first Deathwatch campaign a few days back. I'll step aside for the other players to give you advice.

Regarding a PbP friendly forum, I guess there are a bunch of them out there. The first that comes to mind is the Nerdbound forum I mentioned, DJSunhammer can shed some light on the matter, or we could go to an altogether different forum supporting PbP mechanics.

I for one expect a game running more towards heavy RP with a nice mixture of combat of course. I am not overtly fond of long verbose posts, but I'll give my contribution to the story don't you worry. Let's just wing it and see where it leads us. I believe that we, the players, will give you enough material for you to build your story upon, be it taken from our background stories or the immediate interaction.

I was planning to create a Sanguinary Priest leaning vaguely towards a Chaplain, but that remains to be seen as I have the impression there are already a few of us with a penchant for those screaming, raving madmen

I recommend RPol. I don't have anything against Nerdbound, but it is just standard forum software that some people use to do PbP games. RPol is specifically built for PbP games and it has a lot of features that are designed to make running a pbp easier.

Like I said, I'm more than happy to play second in command or lore-keeper if you'd rather take charge of things. Which were you preferring to do?

The character I've written doesn't really fit for a command type. I'm fine with a secondary role.

Gotcha. I'll lean more towards Command, then. Just a background to write now.

So guys, you used the point buy system in the end?

Ya. It's just easier to keep track of. With rolling you have to write down every roll and then decide where to put it. I usually end up with a big list of numbers that I have to slowly cross off as I assign them to characteristics. Sometimes I forget to cross off a number or cross off the wrong one. It's just annoying. With point buy I just put 10 in everything then split the last 10 between the two characteristics that I want to emphasize. Super simple.

As for class, I'd have gone Tac Marine as well, but they are severely lacking in melee talents. Really no reason to go for the Chaplain if you can't expect to do well when you are hitting stuff with your shiny Crozius. The Wolf Priest doesn't really have this problem since they get a lot of those essential melee talents in their advancement table.

And I've always wanted to do one with a Power Fist and a Crozius. Might as well have a jump pack while I'm at it.

Can you direct me to the fillable sheets you are using? I found some but I'm not to happy about them. Thank you.

I use a text sheet. Fillable PDFs are slow. I can PM it to you if you like. Also remember that if we use RPol you won't be able to use a PDF. They are strictly text sheets only.

Thanks DJSunhammer, I found what I was looking for here: http://www.raphitari.com/deathwatch/DeathwatchCharSheetFillable.pdf Even though we decide to play on RPol I was thinking of updating this pdf as my character progresses. I am not sure how the text based character sheets on RPol look like, but If if needed I will copy everything there, thanks again.
