I'm posting below an email sent to the DC Meta/Baltimore Meta Google group announcing a tournament taking place downtown DC on Saturday, 12 January, 2013 due to the significant number of people that have shown up at DC and Baltimore events via forums advertisements.
-------------------------------
Dearest rat-racers, crab-mongers, and listserv spies,
I plan to host a casual AGOT tournament downtown DC on Saturday, 12 January in honor of a weekend visit from DC's "satellite" metamate, Dan "Kid" Seefeldt, the 2012 AGOT North American Continental Champion.
Location: Cafeteria at the GWU campus's Ivory Tower (616 23rd Street NW Washington, DC 20052)
Start time: 12:30p (Kid and I likely will show up no later than 12:00p)
Number of rounds: Five rounds of Swiss (no elimination rounds)
Format: AGOT Joust
Contact: Erick; 301.275.9819, games@erickbutzlaff.com
Travel advisories:
-- Easily accessible via the Foggy Bottom/GWU of the blue and orange lines of the DC Metro
-- If taking the DC Metro, be sure to check for scheduled system delays the day before on wmata.com
-- Parking can be scarce, but the GWU campus is on winter break so perhaps not as scarce as usual
After the event: We'll be getting dinner and drinks within walking distance of Ivory Tower, location TBD
This being a casual and hastily planned shindig, there will be no entry fee. And while it's likely that there will be no physical prizes, there is glory to be had for the one or two players who best one of the most skilled gatherings of AGOT players in the world, and plenty of good experience points for those in need of competitive AGOT lessons.
Let everyone else know via the Google group if you plan to attend; Kid, Corey, and I all are in.
