some 40k related paintings
Published on 25 November 2010 - 05:46:45

Greetings everyone.

I'm more a drawing man than a painter, but i'm trying to paint some characters of our current Rogue trader campaigns. I know that oil painting should be better to give an "official portrait" aspect, but i can only do -badly- with watercolor paint.

Criticisms and comments welcome of course.

My first try : Lobelia Hoefer-Juggdrall, Xeno game huntress Praetorian Seneschal, on her biggest trophy : a full grown Catachan devil she killed in close combat. the link for a full size picture :

Second try :   Lucretia Victrix Anastasia Von Razgriz, Sinophian Noble born Rogue trader.

greetings everyone.

now, some work in progress : the vessel of our Rogue trader team : the very old archeotech-ladden Orion Class "Ex Cathedra".

She was recovered in M31 in a space Hulk with the name giver of the Orion class, and restored and bought by the Razgriz dynasty. It was the last of their starship, at the fondation of the Calixis Sector. Then the current holder Mordechai Von Razgriz began a long journey to Holy Terra as an humble pilgrim, to comply to his warrant and prooves to the High Lords that his family has accomplished their task . Ex Cathedra was then landed on Sinophia, and was used as an Imperial Cathedral for nearly a millenia.

Now, the last Razgriz heir, has at last received the high Lord clearance. Once again, no more some bitter landlubber nobles on a decaying world, the Razgriz travel among the star, on their proud starship, a colossal statue of the Emperor sitting on the hull, guiding them to riches and new worlds to conquer.

if people are interrested, i can post here the ship characteristics.

all comments welcome.

Still no comments ? oh well....

By the way, a work in progress, but here is the portrait of our quite excentric Adeptus Mechanicus Representative, an heretek Hunter from the Sollex Order, named... Explorator gadget.

Yes. THIS Gadget. shown here with his trustee servo (dog) skull Fides. Work in progress, all comments welcome. full size link here img51.imageshack.us/img51/6195/p1060586.jpg

Its player is quite new to 40k but was fascinated by the machine-like red guys. When we explained what were their "mechanical tentacules thingies", he jocked about Gadget... and under peer pressure, here he is. And everyone have a blast with him at our side !

For Information here is his Origin Path : Void Born ( to represent his uncanny luck) => Unnatural Origin (False Men) => Criminal, Hunted by a Crime Baron => (free line) High vendetta : (Die hard) => Fear : Tourmented by the Unspeakable.

Very nice.  I'm particularly fond of the background in the first painting, and love the eye in the void there.  In the second one the character herself looks much better, and I like the little demonic looking cherubs.  Can't figure out why she is standing on top of a (seemingly alive) orc, but no matter, she has a Warrent of Trade, she can do whatever she wants :P

One little thing with the first picture is that because the prow (front) of the ship is colored and due to where it is positioned, it gives the appearance of being a cloak or something that she is wearing as opposed to part of the ship.  While I love her being framed by it and having it in the background and everything, positioning it slightly differently in future similar works might be a good idea.

the ork is perhaps still alive, but as it is beheaded, and with a large bullet hole on the brow, not for long....She is standing on a pile of ennemy heads, one for each kind of ennemy she has already purged in His Name when serving as Arbites : An Ork, a Kroot, (both in space battles), an Ambull (the cleansing of a mad merchant house who tried to tame them as guardian pets), and many heretics and traitors skulls.

Concerning the first one, dully noted, I need perhaps to give some texture tp the prow and augment contrast to avoid this. for those who did not recognize, she is standing on an adult Catachan Devil, she slew in close combat, alone.... (damned Astropath and his jamming Misshap !)

Ooooh, I see it now.  I wasn't looking super closely so I thought the other heads were shoulder guards :P

Now that I see it though, quite obvious.  Makes much more sense now.

Hi everyone. Some new pics for the new year !

This tome, it's only drawings with a good old  HB pencil. First, a character I help to create in a collective roleplay thread on a certain imageboard.

So here is Lonallyn Victrix IV Von Juggdrall, who just inherited her Warrant. You can see also her flegmatic, cool & quite creepy but efficient Seneschal Lucan, and the jolly 40 something Navigator Von Liebowitz and his uncanny fanged smile.

And right under, her starship, a Dauntless Light Cruiser named Tempus Fugit - the crew are really devoted to Saint Celestine, and it shows !

As usual, comments & critics are always welcomed !

Here is an update.
This is the flagship of my players, in our current play-by-post RT campaign : an apostle-class Cruiser named Ex Cathedra, and the pimpiest starship in the whole Obscurus Segmentum.

Excellent job with the ships. I love the attention to detail - it helps give a sense how big they are meant to be.

I can honestly say that when I see the early works in this thread, I think that they are less than stellar.

But that last piece is goddamned godly. Amazing, amazing work. I love it.

Love all of them.

The paintings I see on the walls of the quarters of their respective characters (Rogue Trader and his crew usually have an ego ;)) to show off their glory and victories.

I also like the detail you put into the ships, they look fantastic and for new types of models they fit right into the 40k aesthetic!
